Paris: Walks and a Canal Ride

There is a company that leads walks around various places in Paris and
London. They last about 2 hours and there is a different one each
morning and afternoon. The people who lead these are very
knowledgeable and give a good account of the history of the area and
who lived there, along with several anecdotes. And they generally
point out several cafes to which you can return for a drink, etc,
afterwards. I did two...

Every Friday

Hemingway's Paris 10.30, am The colourful Mouffetard district of the
Latin Quarter. Explore this charming quarter with the quaint old
houses of the Mouffetard market street, associated with James Joyce,
George Orwell, and also French writers Balzac and the disreputable
poet Verlaine. Hemingway lived here and describes the neighbourhood in
his last book "A Moveable Feast". Meet at metro Cardinal Lemoine (line
10). Price 10 euros [this was nice because the leader quoted several
times from A Moveable Feast and once from Snows of Kilimanjaro]

Every Monday

Ile de la Cite and Notre Dame 10.30 a.m. Read the stories in the
medieval sculptures and hear how this marvellous gothic cathedral was
built. We also look at the history and architecture of the Ile de la
Cité, and visit the poignant memorial to those deported during the
Second World War. Meet at metro Cite (line 4). Price 10 euros

Paris Canal Ride.

This was fun to do, too, on a sunny afternoon. The one we took went
down four sets of locks and the last leg was underground and was a
cold 18 minutes. The people who live and work along the canals come
out when the boat is in the lock and wave at the passengers. The two
boats only make one or two trips a day because along with the locks,
there are several bridges which must be raised which holds up traffic,
and there are two places where the rode actually swings to one side to
allow the boat to pass. I think we did the "From the Parc de la
Villette" trip and you can book a round trip or one way.

I enjoyed the Paris Walks also. I took five of them while in Paris.

I don't doubt that your recommendations are worthwhile.

We, on the other hand, just walked around:

Also my impressions and the comments of others to my remarks are there.
