Yes I'm not arguing particularly against paying.
Generally a day or weekly ticket is the best solution for enthusiasts
covering whole systems, and a carnet for the metro isn't much money.
Just tried to explain the question : "Why would you want to ride the metro
for 3hours?"
The answer is ,simply, there are such persons as we are all different.
And travelling the Metro just for fun isn't so bad, you'll see a lot of
people being in their daily life, the mix of them is likely to differ from
area to area. As a tourist to a foreign city you're likely to spend some
time in the local transport, instead of seeing it as a troublesome way of
transport from A to B one should relax, make observations mix with people
and have fun.

It was an attempt to defraud the RATP. She can find someone else less
dishonest than myself to serve as her accomplice in crime.

Complete rubbish, like most of what you post.

There was a time when I was hard-pushed for money. Over a period of
about a month, I barely had enough to buy a métro ticket. However,
my clothes, bought whilst money was still in plentiful supply, were
expensive.

Anyone who said, 'he can afford to buy a métro ticket' would have been
blowing hot air out of his arse.

just like you're doing now.

I bet you're the sort the US government has wet dreams about: 'denounce
your neighbour !! Tell us about anything suspicious !!'

So you barely had enough, and thus didn't have to enter the system
fraudulently.

If you could eat, you could buy Métro tickets. And if you couldn't buy
Métro tickets ... you could walk.

The U.S. government is not a conscious entity, and thus has no dreams at
all.

I'm the type of person who is scrupulously honest in all matters.
Strangely, many people consider this a fault, even though the world
would be a considerably nicer place if everyone were so honest.

I see sexy bints every day in the métro. I don't automatically
assume that they're rolling in money, just because they're well-
dressed.

I didn't 'enter the system' fraudulently.

How fortunate we are that the world isn't in black and white, as you
appear to perceive it.

Take someone who has just enough to buy a meal, _or_ buy a métro ticket
to attend an interview on the other side of Paris.

I took the choice: I spent two hours walking to the interview. I got
the job, and all that's in the past now, but I don't automatically
condemn those whose situations I am completely ignorant of.

Yes indeed, I would certainly have suggested that dinner would also be
included in the deal..........

One need not be rolling in money to buy a Métro ticket. Even vagrants
can afford Métro tickets.

    > I didn't 'enter the system' fraudulently.

That's what I said. You had money to pay for tickets, like everyone
else.

    > How fortunate we are that the world isn't in black and white, as you

There's nothing black and white about my perception, although it tends
to be relentlessly objective.

Paris is a small city. You can walk from one point to another if you
don't have money for Métro tickets. But Métro tickets are very cheap.
A Métro ticket is far less expensive than a cup of coffee or a sandwich.

    > Take someone who has just enough to buy a meal, _or_ buy a métro ticket

What about him? If he only has enough money for one or the other, he
won't survive long enough to hear the results of the interview.

I don't automatically assume that anyone defrauding the Métro system is
doing so because she is too poor to pay for it.

One thing I've learned is that people who ask for money or handouts are
not necessarily the same people who actually need them.

Dinner would be orders of magnitude more expensive than a Métro ticket,
so if I'm not willing to pay for the latter I'd hardly be willing to pay
for the former (and in any case she did not ask).

Heh, the point is, did you ask? She might have accepted a dinner
invitation - maybe even dancing afterwards.........

Don't know unless you ask.

Why would I want to invite her to dinner or dancing? I don't even know
her.

Well as she made the first move, maybe she would have invited you to dinner
and.....
