Paris for the first time, in a hurried last minute trip!!!!
Hi everyone,
I'm making a "last minute" attempt to go to Paris for the first time in my
life, and the promotion I am considering offers a package with either of
these two hotels:
Pavillon Bercy Gare de Lyon
Pavillon Porte de Versailles Paris-Expo
I figure these are business/exposition hotels, but wonder if it would be OK
to be based there for four days in a pleasure trip. My doubts:
1) are these hotels too far of main attractions (Eiffel, Louvre, other
museums, cafés etc)/????
2) in case they are far away, would I have to spend a lot of money with
taxi, or there is easy access to bus/metro other transportation?
3) anyone have been to either of these hotels, please share your comments.
Thanks,
CB

Hi,
I think that in both cases, you won't be far from the main attractions.
Actually, Paris is not so big and you should be to go everywhere
in less than half an hour (maybe 45 min in the worst case) using
public transportations (which are cheap).

The city of Paris is quite small in geographical area. Any hotel within
the city limits (and that includes these two) will be convenient.
> 1) are these hotels too far of main attractions (Eiffel, Louvre, other

No. They are only a Métro ride away. If you want to _walk_, they are
somewhat off the main tourist areas, but the Métro will get you to major
attractions in a few minutes.

There is easy access to public transportation throughout Paris,
including the world's best subway system and an extensive bus network.
Taking a taxi is throwing money away, and it's slower than the Métro.

I don't know the hotels, but I know the areas. Neither is particularly
scenic, but as I've said, you're only a Métro ride away from the
attractions. I'd pick the Porte de Versailles location if I had to
choose between the two--there are always interesting shows going on at
the Parc des Expositions center.

this one is in the aera of Paris where I was born : nice and central,
very near from Bastille and Marais . With underground, you are less than
15 mn from everywhere.
Don't forget to visit rue de Lappe and surroundings, as well as rue des
Rosiers and place des Vosges where Victor Hugo lived

Re: Paris for the first time, in a hurried last minute trip!!!!
Don't know the hotels, but the one near Gare de Lyon is MUCH more
central, with much better access to transport, etc. The other is in
Issy-les-Moulineaux, some way out in the suburbs and (I suspect) a bit
of a pain to get back to in the late evenings. The Bercy Gare de Lyon
is close to two metro lines (6 and 8 from Dumesnil station), which
between them make a sort of circle taking in or getting close to most
of the main tourist sights. Although this is a fairly workaday part of
eastern Paris (in many ways more interesting for that reason), you
could be right over the other side at the Eiffel Tower in maybe 30
minutes.

these are crummy locations -- Bercy is a sort of 'new town' development
but Paris has a great metro system and you really can get anywhere you
want to go -- I'd rather have a hotel in the Latin Quarter, the 6th or
the Marais for convenience -- you can walk everywhere a quickie tourist
is likely to want to be from there -- but with the Metro you can stay
anywhere

Have to agree with somebody else, the Pavillon Bercy Gare de Lyon
is the better choice. Not far from the Promenade Plantée and also only one
métro stop from the Méteor line. Though to get to any of the more
interesting places, you need to change trains. On the good side, it looks
like a fairly modern and well kept building, though the area seems fairly
commercial.
