Paris: 8 Days in December
Hi All,
I'll be in Paris for 8 days in December and I'm wondering if I should
rent an apartment/studio or do the usual hotel thing. Any suggestions
on which is better. The price seems roughly similar.
I figure we'll stay in Paris for 5-7 nights and go off to Brugge or
Southern France for a night or two. Looking forward to it as I haven't
been to Paris since '98 :)
Thanks for any tips,
Keith

I think it depends on whether you plan to do any cooking and the size of
your party. You might fit more people into an apartment than in one
hotel room. I deluded myself and thought I would cook for the four of
us, to cut expenses, on the last Paris trip. I didn't. Why cook for
yourself when you're on vacation in Paris?
For the shorter stay in Brugge or Southern France, you might consider a
B&B.
Next time, it's a nice hotel for me.

Renting is the only way to go.
You get more space for less money. Another poster has observed that people
don't go to Paris to cook. This is correct. But they do go to Paris to wake
up when they want and have a (continental) breakfast at their leisure. Many
people, after a long day going around their destination prefer to eat
salami, cheese, bread, & wine (or a re-heated deli dish) in the same kind
of comfort without having to go out, wait, pay, and then travel back home.
And if you have all your breakfasts in cafés and eat noon and night in
restaurants, you spend no more.

Skip Bruges then, it deserves more than one day.

B&Bs are very expensive in Bruges. There are good hotels in the centre (200 m from the
Tower) for 50 Euro/night. Check http://www.jack-travel.com/.

It does indeed. But you'll see enough of it in one day to get an appetite
for another trip to Bruges, so I wouldn't recommend to skip it for that
reason. :-)

True ! :))
But in December they will probably want to stay indoors, particularly if the weather is
bad... I was there October last year and it was already chilly and rainy.
