Paradors in Spain
 

Any suggestions for Paradors in Spain. We will be visiting in May
2008. We've been before - Barcelona and East coast but now want to
travel within the country for ten days or so.

There are many "parador sites" on the Internet but we cannot tell
which are best or more reliable.

We're in our 60's and are not looking for the "cheapest" but rather
comfort and convenience but certainly cost is an issue. We'll be
driving.

we have been to all the historic ones, our photos are here.

We dont bother with all those reseller parador sites , we book direct
with the parador web site

Most have special rates, except at peak times, for over 60s; check their
website for these. I agree that you should use their own website.

yes, paradors have a golden something scheme. Its on the site.

we did a loop from Madrid clockwise round the Picos de Europa and got
a special rate on a 5 night card

We stayed at the parador in Granada. It was spectacular. We booked at
the parador site.

What type do you want? Jaen is a spectacular site, but not really
anywhere, except on a route across. Zamora is a good one, and the town
(chosen only because it was on our way) is worth a few hours. Nerja has
a good beach....

Thanks for the speedy response and many good suggestions. We're no
sure exactly where we want to go and are in the early stages of
planning. We will have spent a week or so in souuthern France and
know we'd like to see Madrid and Toledo but have not made any deinite
plans. We would welcome any suggestions as well as any planning aids.

Lets divide Spain into three areas, there are others but lets keep it
to the most likely contenders. (The links are to photos of what im

any feeling for which appeals? How long go you have? What are your
interests? Hemmingway and bullfighting? Wildlife? Castles? Food?
Flamenco? Maybe you could do open jaw right across the country?

Madrid has a lot of art and stuff, it can be a bit much, the old
quarter is excellent for tapas, your flight is possibly going to be to
there so a day or so? (where do you start from?)
Toledo is typical of stern castilian Spain with its alcazar giving
reminders of the franco side of the civil war.
