Paella in Barcelona
We are going to be in Barcelona in October. Where do we find the best paella
in the Las Ramblas or Barcelonetta area? Looking forward to your
recommendations!!!

Try Les Quinze Nits in Placa Reial. The line moves quickly.

We really enjoyed Set Portes - www.setportes.com . Lots of charm and
atmosphere, as well as excellent food and service. Unless you are ravenous,
one order of paella easily serves two. We each had a hot starter (one
Catalan spinach and one monkfish soup), then the paella parellada. It was a
memorable dining experience.

We had a good seafood one in a restaurant near the inland end in
a side street just off to the "left", south. But paella isn't of
course a Catalan dish. You can get a nice Catalan lobster stew
beyond the Ramblas on the way to Barclenoeta, in the place with
the huge lobster on the roof.

Some people will laugh at this, but I went here 5 or 6 times 25 years ago
and it was terrific! Not elegant, but open to the beach and the food was
really good. My favorite was parillada del mar with salsa romesco, though
they do serve a paella.

Will it still be there post Olympic revamp of the area?

I got the address off the internet when I wrote the message so I figure it's
still there...
In the time of which I speak, there were two or three restaurants just like
it (it's pretty big) near by: it was full when touts for the other guys
were trying to lure you to their establishment... I also think that an
establishment that has lasted that long probably has something going for
it. It is not obvious if you're familiar or not with Barceloneta; in my
time it was very 'popular' in the etymological sense. Since I have very
fond memories of it, I would certainly go straight there if I happenned to
be in Barcelona. Unfortunately, I can not give you a meal back guarantee!
Good luck

I've only been there post redevelopment, so I don't really know
how much it has changed, I have heard people complain it hasnt as
much character now, but people often say that about change. From
looking at a few webpages and books I think most of the change is
at Port Olympic next door. So hopefully its all still there for
us both to enjoy. (I have a promise of discount dentistry there
as we foiled a bagsnatch of a dentists wifes bag!).
