    > xxxx Museums

I think you are going to get fed up with museums - Thats more than I've been
to in London, and I live pretty close - I'd prioritise them and keep some as
backup for rainy days.

    > * Tower of London

Add Tower Bridge - I think you can get a tour of the workings.

    > * Westminster Abbey

What about the Houses of Parliament - just around the corner, you can even
watch a live sitting - you may have to queue.

    > * Priory Church of St Barthomolew

I think there may be another museum at St Bartholomew hospital worth adding
to the list - But it may have closed down years ago.

    > * Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park

You may be disappointed with Speakers corner, last time I was there (about 3
weeks ago) there were 3 bored men waiting for a audiance, but just wander
down Oxford street and do some shopping instead. Or Ice skating under Marble
Arch (I don't know you dates)(but not exactly Rockerfella or Frog Pond)

    > * The London Eye

Only if the weather is good.

There are definite must-sees on that, but it's an overall list, which we'll
be doing as time and mood permit.

I did not know that. *ding* Added!

Forgot to mention that. I've a request in to the US Embassy for a "card of
introduction" which is supposed to help avoid the queue or something. We'll
see.

Ah well, sounded like a nice drop-by on Sunday afternoon. Mid-March is the
plan. Ice skating? I haven't done that in years. Hoo.

Thanks for the tips!

It's a big list but a good one. Congratulations on resisting Madame
Tussaud.

    > * St Paul's Cathedral

If you're interested in churches some of the smaller City churches, near
St. Paul's, are well worth seeing -- St. Bride's Fleet Street is a good
one. (Easy walk from St. P's.)

    > * National Portrait Gallery

Don't forget the National Gallery, which is next door to the NPG, and the
church of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, just over the road.

    > * The Museum Of

An interesting minimalist collection there.

I didn't see the Tate Modern which I would put ahead of quite a few of
the other museums.

Nice list. I have done slightly over half of them. It has taken me 6
one week visits. I have only ventured outside of London once.

However, I have also been to the tate, tate modern, windsor castle,
the national gallery, Regent, Green, Hyde Parks, greenwich, Millenium
bridge, Madam Tussants(twice), and the half price ticket booth about
15-20 times. All are worth doing.

There is a nice book called "the small museums of london" which
describes many of the smalls very well.

I would suggest that the National Gallery instead of the National
Portrait Gallery, or at least in addition to the latter. The National
Gallery is one of the world's finest museums.

I wasn't terribly impressed with the church itself, but we really
enjoyed the free lunchtime concert, and afterwards we had a very nice
lunch in the crypt.

What about Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeons - really touristy but =
fun. Also, are you intending to go shopping as Harrods is a must!
The Design Museum is interesting as well.
And don't forget the nice pub in Grove Road that everyone else here is =
soooo keen on.

We're going for kulcha for the most part this time around, but thanks.

Definitely. Didn't list shopping and munchies as I felt that was overknow. I
understand one should purchase before trying to use the bogs at Harrods to
avoid extra fees, right?

    > The Design Museum is interesting as well.

I'll check into it.

There's a nice pub in Grove Road? Interesting.

Until April 30th you can get two tickets for the price of one at the
above and many other interesting places including the Tower Bridge
Experience and the London Dungeon.
You'll be able to pick up the bright pink leaflet at any tube station.

I think you have to pay a couple of quid to use the loo unless you're a =
Harrods account holder or if you've eaten in one of their restaurants.

Interesting and free.

Very interesting and one of my favourites. But I see no mention of the
main Imperial War Museum ?

According to Time Out magazine there's an ice rink at Broadgate Arena
near Liverpool Street Station which is open until April.

The list is getting pretty long so I may have missed it but how about
Natural History Museum? National Maritime Museum, Greenwich
Observatory.

Salisbury Cathedral is wonderful - see if you can find a volunteer
guide called John, he is great. Don't miss the CXhapter House for the
Magna Carta (stunning) and frighten the life out of yourself by
staning in the central part of the cathedral right beside one of the 4
major supports and look straight up. The pillar curves outward quite
substantially becaause of the streess of the load it bears - they all
do it so i doesn't matter which one you choose.

Any interest in military history? Bovington Tank Museum. Imperial War
Museum at Duxford or RAF at Hendon. Submarine Meseum at Gosport and
the whole of Portsmouth.

Bath??

Warwick Castle?

Battle Abbey?

Dover Castle underground sections?

York?

The list goes on and on....

Personally I'd skip some of the London stuff - could get a bit samey
after a while. Grab a camper van and hit the road......

Cheers,

PC
