there is an advert in UK at the moment with Bud I think. these two
lads are sitting on the beach and watching these two young, attractive
babes coming out of the water, wearing a bikini. And and one lad said
to the other "you know in Spain the girls go around topless, it is the
law."
It cuts away and than have a scene in Spain. Where this big, ulgy
lady stands up and take off her top. And these two spanish lads than
look bad in horror and the other said "you know in USA the girls have
to wear bikini tops, it is the law."

It is quite funny, but also highlight something else, the grass is not
greener the other sid.

On Kerterminde beach in Denmark, I would say the "average" age of the
topless babes was 60+ !! And speaking of drooping . . . !!!

What on earth is up with those? Is there anyone alive who doesn't look like
a deformed walrus in an empire waist dress?

Perhaps that's why some where nothing at all?

I've yet to see one! (And it's wise not to ask "When is it due?" if you
encounter a friend wearing one - she may NOT be pregnant!) ;-)

One should recall that during the late 1790s and the First Empire when the
style was first popular, young women, far in advance of today's "Wet
TShirt" contests, wore no undergarments and dampened the light gauze fronts
of "empite" style frocks, a practice which no doubt added to attentions men
paid to some who wore'em. Paulin Buonaparte (who seemed to bear her
breasts for artsist and even casual callers) was reputed to chill her
nipples with a bit of ice during social events to increase the prominence
of the impression she wished to convey.

....and those of us who were young in the 60s can rember a lot of young
women, especially those with smaller breasts, who could be drop-dead
alluring in the style. It returns every few decades (as it did in the 20s)
for the same resons, that designers find it an attractive alternative
during periods when siliconish D-Cups and be-thonged rears of Jennifer
Lopezian dimensions are not de rigeur.

Other than a bra what other garment is there to disguise the natural
effect of gravity on the aging bustline??

Two words "tan lines"

Of course, not all women are of the same size and don't really need
much in the way of support.

Did I say there was? (You obviously understood my meaning, why ask?)

I read it to mean that the garment that most women past middle age wear
a garment different from women not past middle age. Only garment I was
aware of that women wear, if they wear one, is a bra.

It must be a bit chilly in winter.

Well, I'm not responsible for your lack of reading comprehension, am I?
(From your name, I assume you to be English or American, thus unable
to claim that English is not your first language.)
