Most early xians were in fact Greek as I recall but the vernacular
of the Jewish inhabitants of the region was Aramaic

Well the Talmud was largely written in Aramaic and the Tora in Hebrew.
From Roman records it would seem that Aramaic was the
ligua franca of the region while Hebrew was largely reserved for
religious purposes. Aramaic is still spoken today in parts
of Syria and Lebanon

Nehemiah 13:23-27 suggests that God didn't think much of Ashdod.
