Hi
Can anybody advise me on what the rules are for visiting the North....
Does it for example affect my passport stamp?
How long can I spend in North Cyprus, where do I enter, is it only by foot
or can I drive round freely?
Is it safe?
Any help appreciated!

You cannot go there from the south. The only way in is from Turkey and then
you ask immigration not to stamp your passport. Last time were in the
Cypriot part of Nicosia we wanted to visit my cousins grave in the war
cemetery which is now situated in 'no man's land' We asked at the UN border
post and they arranged for a soldier to take us there in a jeep. We were not
allowed to take any photographs ourselves of the grave but our escort was
allowed to do it for us.

Is this current information? There have been a lot of changes in Cyprus
in the last few months. I think a day trip at least can now be made from
the south, but check with the local authorities on both sides.

Derek
I am 99 per cent sure that this has changed recently (with turkeys entry to
the EU as a way forward).
I am sure they allowed people through now under certain limitations - I
think I need to do some more searching...

I hope that it has. It was a few years ago that we were there. I also hope
that things have improved in theNorth. We had several power cuts a day when
we were there. I was never sure how restaurents manageto finish cooking the
dinner.
