No smoking in Dutch restaurants
In a review of a pancake house in Katwijk, it is mentions that the NO SMOKING
section is in the cellar which is designed for children. It also mentions how badly behaved Dutch kids are. I thought only expats noticed such things. -- Martin |

I thought only expats noticed such things. Why did it single out the kids? Do they imagine that the adults behave better? I'm amused the they show Gordon Ramsey on Clog TV - the series where he helps out failing restaurants. The "recipe" is always the same - it's not so much a question of the food, but the service. If they can get the punters sitting down, eating, and out of the door, they make money. Now why can't the Cloggies realise that. On our recent trip out of the country it was pretty funny - we are so used to spinning out a starter to make it last as long as possible so that the wait for the main course is shorter, that we hadn't finished the soup before the main courses were delivered - and that was at Caribbean speeds !! Now why can't the Cloggies realise that. Why do the Dutch show the same episode on two consecutive evenings at the same time, and why do they insert 10 minute commercial breaks? My daughter said it was similar when shown in UK. Like the fancy (Michelin star ??) place in Wateringen - for dessert we got a whole bunch of minute things in thimbles, teaspoons etc. Just give me a big slice of sticky toffee pudding covered in custard !!
