Default Moscow hotel - any recommendations

Hi

A group of 2 adults and 5 students in the age group 15-17 years plan
to make a day's halt at Moscow on way to Simferopol. Any suggestions
as to what would be a good but reasonably priced hotel near Moscow
airport. Can the bookings be done on the net? else, does anyone have
the phone/fax number of the hotel?

Thanks in advance

Are you just spending the night at the airport (SVO?) or do you plan
to sepend a day in Moscow? Are any of the travelers fluent in
Moskowese? How many rooms are needed to properly sort and separate
this group?

No help yet.

Moscow actually has 4 airports - but I assume that you will be arriving from
India at Sheremetyevo 2 (SVO2).

There is a Novotel at SVO2 with free shuttle service to/from the airport
which you can book online at
http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/index.html

If you are planning on spending the day in Moscow, considering the size of
your group, your best bet would probably be to pre-hire a small minibus with
an English speaking driver/guide to show you some of the sights. This can be
done online through a Russian travel agency such as Demlink Travel
http://www.demlinktravel.com/ or AcademService http://www.tourintel.ru/

If you are merely in transit at SVO, don't forget that you will need to
arrange a Russian entry visa to step outside the confines of the airport -
even to go to the hotel. Simferopol is in the Ukraine but Moscow is in
Russia!

We have an overnight at Moscow (approximately 14 hours). There are 5
students aged arounnd 16 years and 2 adults. Nobody can speak
Moskowese. We will, of course, have a valid transit visa. We are
interested in seeing just the Red Square and is looking for a
dormitory type accommodation (5 beds) for the children and 2 single or
1 double for the 2 adults.

Thanks. We are forced to transit at SVO for 14 hours because they
arbitrarily changed their schedule. We have a valid transit visa
which permits us to stay at Moscow for three days. By the way, their
transit visas are very very expensive.

I'm sure you'll have a really good time in Moscow - it's one of the world's
great "travellers" cities.
Pleased to be of help to you.

Kindest regards
Gerry

Moscow hotels are very expensive! And unless you book yourself into a 4 or
5-star hotel (which will cost you a small fortune), expect very mediocre
accommodations. I usually stay at serviced apartments when I fly to
Moscow. You get total privacy, great locations and all of the hotels
amenities and more.. check out some apartments www.gotorussia.com has -
that's who I use, but there are a few other companies offering similar
apartments as well.

The Russian visas isn't necesarily that expensive. What has happened
is probably either that you needed to pick it up on a short notice (it
costs many times as much to pick it up the same day compared with
after 10 days), that a travel agency or the like did the job at the
embassy for you for a mark up or both.
