NEWS ASIA-PACIFIC
Philippine separatist leader killed
Troops say they have killed dozens of Abu Sayyaf fighters in an
on-going offensive [GALLO/GETTY] ....

Wasn't it back in 86 when the left wing whackos were overjoyed that
Marcos was gone and "Democracy came to the Phillipines"?.

Hypocrites.

<Speak for yourself. Remember, the Phillipines were an American
colony. We
were supposed to have taught them "democracy" under our tutelage.
What went
wrong? I admit that I too was surprised when it went wrong, since I
had
been taught to believe that it should go right.

Why was the left all over the world chanting "Democracy comes to the
Philippines" when Marco fell while they now chant the Bush approach to
introducing democracy in Iraq was "naive" and "misguided"?

What innate different characterisitics do the inhabitants of a former
American colony have relative to democracy compared with the
inhabitants of former European colonies all over the world?

Show me now where your beloved Frogs have taught liberte'. fraternite',
equalite' in their former colonies in Africa.

Freedom and balance of political power didn't come about easily or
quickly anywhere in the world throughout history. We are still fighting
a political power struggle in the US. Perhaps you are naive enough to
assume something was settled here in 1865 at the expense of 650,000
lives?

I can understand a spoiled younger generation and their unattainable
habit of demanding "instant gratification" in Iraq but I don't
understand
someone of our generation suffering from that same disorder.

Please explain. IMO it just demonstrates again your inconsistent
"expectations" relative to Iraq and just more America bashing.

Can I ask you seriously, has America's peformance in Iraq lived up to
your expectations? Coz even GWB says he's not satisfied!!!

Actually, the Philippines had been a democracy since 1946 when it gained its
independence from the US. There were 9 duly-elected presidents before
Marcos, who declared martial law before his second and last term was about
to expire due to term limits. So democracy did *not* come to the Philippines
when Marcos was gone, it was merely RESTORED.

Arroyo has never won an election.

She illegally seized power and then rorted the election 5 years later.

Her very first act was to cease the ERAP program, which gave free rice
to the poorest, landless families.

There's you lovely "compassionate conservatives" for you...
