Default McLays Guest House, Glasgow, Scotland

Hello,

Has anybody on this messageboard stayed at McLays Guest House (264 to
276, Renfrew Street, Glasgow, Strathclyde, G3 6TT) before?.

Im thinking about staying there because rooms start from £26.

All i know about the guest house is it is located in the city centre
about of a mile from the main train stations (Central Station & Queen
Street Station), and it takes 15-20 minutes to walk from either train
station.

Finally is this the correct address and telephone number for T.O.A.
Taxis?:

0141 429 7070
21 Lawmoor Road, Glasgow, G5 0UE

Many Thanks,

Hiya

Not stayed there but did a search on www.ask.co.uk and found the home page for the Guest House which might give you some more info. Hope it helps.

It takes 15-20 minutes bags to get TO the station. Getting FROM the
station can take longer, as much of Renfrew Street is uphill, and your
bag(s) may also slow you down.
I've not stayed in that guesthouse, but I have stayed in another nearby one
- it's not the prettiest area, but it's convenient and cheap and seems
relatively safe.

See http://www.theaa.com/hotels/94200.html - as it is rated 3 diamond by the
motoring organisation I think you should find it OK. To look up UK phone
numbers use the directory service at www.bt.com

Hi NUFC

Never heard of the guest house you talk about but there are several in that
part of Renfrew Street that are OK so hopefully that will be one of them.
It is situated in a good location near to the Charing Cross area of the city
centre and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants within a very short
walk. If you like Chinese food, the China King Buffet restaurant in
Sauchiehall Street is excellent value, as is the Henglers Circus pub just
along from it for some of the best prices on drink in the city centre.

The only thing that may be a problem if mobility is difficult for you is
that this part of the city is very hilly.

Renfrew Street also has the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed school of art
which is worth a look and the Tenement house museum is in the next street up
and shows how Glaswegians lived in the early part of the 20th Century.

The number for TOA is correct but there are so many taxis in Glasgow city
centre that it is easier to flag one down or go to the numerous ranks that
are about. The number for the northside TOA is 0141 332 7070 as opposed to
the number for south of the Clyde you gave, but either will do as they are
on the same radio network.

If you want more info on Glasgow or surroundings, feel free to drop me an
e-mail.
