Default Looking for Good Agent: Germany

Subject: Looking for Good Agent: Germany
From: dd ss <[email protected]>
Newsgroups: rec.travel.europe

Hello,

My wife and I have given our son and his future wife their honeymoon;
wedding is in April.

They wish to go to Germany to see castles and also go to Prague for some
general siteseeing.

The honeymoon can start in late May and last for 10-14 days.

I'm looking for a good travel agent to help plan the trip, especially in
the Houston, TX area.

They are capable of renting a car and using local transportation while
in Europe.

Thanks,
Doug S

On this basis I would have thought that you could do it yourself.

All you need are some flights and Car hire arranged (the 'quality'
companies are basically the same ones as in the US).

Even though this date does clash with the 'Whitsun' (Pfingsten)
school holiday, few Germans will use this to visit German locations
so I doubt that there will be any difficulty finding space in a good
hotel and they can just go where the fancy takes them each day.

The exception to this is Prague where you need to book months in
advance for the whole of the season (from about Easter to October)
so this being a holiday probably won't make it much harder.
You will also need to make sure that any car that you get can be
taken into CZ, which many cannot, though you could do a one way
hire, dropping the car off in Dresden and getting the train from there.

Actually, I thought I would get some more help or hints on a DIY as I've
never travelled to Europe on my own. I was looking for suggested
itineraries, which castles are good to see, possible side trips, is a US
drivers license sufficient or not, restaurant suggestions, where to stay
and how to arrange it, and the type of info I did get on the possible
holiday conflict.

Any help or the name of a good agent would be appreciated.

But caution: You have to cross a border to the Czech Republic which is
not allowed with domestic car hire. Ask for special contract.

Then I suggest that you post again with a relevent header.
People are answering (or not) the question that they see, not
another one that you didn't ask (this isn't personl, it's just the way
it works).

An agent will be very little help with such matters. Try a good guide
book first, then ask specific questions here.
