This NG is getting harder and harder to follow when we have to jump over all
the political postings.. Am I out of line in suggesting that we stick to
travel. There are tons of alt.politics groups. Why spam this one? It may
be my imagination, but it seems like there are some regular posters who have
given up this group at least for now..

Don't try to paint all us Niueans with the same brush. Bruce is from North
Niue, a region legendary for the comfort and succor granted to all
terrorists who chance through. We in South Niue have no truck with their ilk
and would welcome George Bush should he and his armies choose to clean house
in the north.

I agree...travel is about celebrating diversity and understanding
commonality. We're here to share, not argue.

And you better watch your silly South Niuean mouth or someone will come down
there to the south and kick your South Niuean butt!! Next week we start
testing our weapons of mass destruction.

Actually, most pf the thread titles give you a pretty good idea what the
posts are likely to be about. (Incidently, I think the word you mean is
"troll", not "spam", and with only a few exceptions, most of the posters
to those threads are NOT trolling.) The situation concerning Iraq is on
many minds these days - both European and American - why should we not
discuss it here?

Anyone who hasn't followed recent discussions and who is interested in
"American Safety in Europe?" might be surprised at what they find under that
heading. It would be helpful if subject headings were changed periodically
to reflect the actual subject matter.

Some peoples news software won't properly handle a changed subject title
within a thread. And Google just considers it a new thread.

No - travel is about understanding other cultures, philosophies, histories,
politics, etc arguing is one of the best ways of getting the real thoughts
of people behind what they think that they think (If you get what I mean).
As long as you can stay friends at the end a good argument is great.

Well... It's a good way to get the real thoughts of people who can
afford computer access, have some idle time to use it, were able to
find Usenet (even if they don't understand just what it is) and who
tend to be highly opinionated. The problem comes when they confuse
themselve as being representative of general run of people in their
country, and their readers do likewise.

Because it's off topic here. This is a newsgroups about traveling
to europe. If you want to be on topic you should post to a newsgroup
like rec.travel.adventure.iraq, but only posts about travelling to
Iraq not the political things. As Bruce already pointed out, there
are plenty of politic-focused groups out there.

Most of them are full of complete crap though. At least here there is a
decent serving of intelligent folk, most of whom have similar mentalities.
There is not really such thing as "on topic" in Usenet land. It's a
completely free forum. If you don't like the topic, don't click on it.
Bullshit threads quickly dissapear if their ignored. You can also 'killfile'
a poster or thread if they bother you too much.

This would be easier if the subject line actually reflected the current
topic of discussion!

Really? Given the international "climate" at present, it doesn't take a
genius to guess what most of thos posts will be about.
