Hi,
I'm off to Karlsruhe Germany, and was wondering if there
was anywhere that is well worth a special visit to,plus any links
to them.
Many thanks for any help.

Delightful smallish town. There is that palace downtown. Rhine river
close by. Black Forest close by.
I usually stay at a family hotel downtown called Kaiserhof. Only problem
may be parking; they do have some spots in a small garage nearly, and
there is a public parking one block away though.

My wife and I spent a few days there in June, as she has friends and
work-related activities there. The big palace (Schloss) near the center
of town is fairly impressive, and has a good museum of regional history if
you're into that sort of thing. The northern part of the Black Forest is
within easy reach. From the Marktplatz you can take the interurban tram
S1 to Bad Herrenalb, about 35-40 minutes away, or you can the S4 into the
Murg valley to Freudenstadt (about an hour one way, but much more scenic
once you get into the mountains). Stop off in Forbach either coming or
going, and take a look at the gorgeous interior of the church there.

You might want to visit Speyer (nice small town, cathedral, good history
museum) or Heidelberg. Both can be reached by train in less than an
hour.

As others have mentioned, Karlsruhe itself is also worth seeing.

Try the new express tram to Forbach/Raumünzach/Freudenstadt (scenic
recently electrified DB owned line).

I liked Speyer better, but I'm partial to history 8-)

Heidelberg is where all the tourists go (at least you get that impression
if you live there). If you like "walking off the beaten path", Speyer is
probably more interesting. Still, I like them both.
