Italy: Train Reservation On-Line

I'll be going Italy the end of April and need to make 1st class rail reservations
from Montecatini Termi to Naples, and then another reservation for a different date
(later) from Naples to Rome (again reserved 1st class).

I went to the web site for the Trenitalia On-line Ticket Office Service, but when I
try to register and make my reservations, the sit kicks out and say that "the service
is suspended".

Is there any other way that I can make train reserveration on line?

As a side note, I was not too familiar with some of the symbols used on the search
feature of Trenitalia. Can anyone let me know what to look in the way of verbage or
symbols to make sure I pick out the most direct and fastest train?

Thank you in advance.

I've heard that you can only *register* during Italian business hours & days. Please
post back if that works, I've read quite a few posts of people not being able to
register and I might try it next week for a Rome-Naples ticket. The "fastest", you
can compare the times for that:) but usually it's the ES (Eurostar) & IC (InterCity)
that are the fastest and most direct. In the timetables under "Stations" if it's
blank, it's direct. If there's a blue name(s) in it there is a connection(s). Under
the "Select" column click-on the "red square/white triangle" for fares, services
(bar/dining car, 1st class, reservations, etc) and connection info for your train.
Also on that page click-on your train's number (like 5374) and it will list it's
stops and timetable for them. Also in the timetables for the Naples train stations
you might see this symbol [U] it means you must walk? (they list the travel time as a
minute or two) from either the Centrale or Garibaldi station for a connection.
Actually they are both basically the same station, one above ground and the other
below ground in the Piazza in front of the Centrale station. Regards, Walter

No help to offer, only commiseration. I have had the same problem, and have tried
several times during Italian business hours, to no avail. I even sent an e-mail to
the only e-mail address I could find on the site. I got no response (10 days now) but
then I wrote in English. I hope somebody has some solution.

You could try the German railways - http://bahn.hafas.de/english.html. They sell
domestic tickets for many European countries, and you don't need to register to
use the site.

Send them an email and write down your name, address and phone number. They should
send you the user name and password.

Don't use hotmail account. They seem to have problems with it. If still no response,
you might try to call them. I did call them, and got my user name and password right
away. (They can speak English.)

Re: Italy: Train Reservation On-Line

I phoned them last day and was told to email them my name, surname, date of birth,
and the userid that I wanted. The email address was [email protected] (it's listed
on the site). They emailed me back within a few minutes.

Of course, I haven't been able to make my reservations online yet. I believe the date
needs to be within 2 months. Can anyone confirm that?
