Going to Rome with adult children and need 3 double rooms for 5 days. Any
recommendations for Rome? Near Spanish Steps / trevi preferably. Then isle
of Ischia (sp?) for 2 nights? Also one double in Carrara area? (kids sent
home, someone has to work), and Cingue Terre?

A thought -- with kids it is nice to be near the Trevi Fountain. My 11 and
12 year olds were lonesome for English speakers ( after five months abroad)
and loved hanging around the fountain and engaging tourists in conversation.

My kids are 28 and 31. And they only get the paid roundtrip and a week in
Italy from Mom & Dad. Extra week is on their own.

with adult kids -- renting an apartment would be sooooo much nicer and
probably cheaper than 3 hotel rooms -- or at least break even -- while
the usual time frame is a week -- some places rent by the night --

we had our adult kids in an apartment near Piazza Navona which I think
is a better area than Spanish steps -- in terms of almost every
dimension one can think of except subway access -- the metro doesn't
really serve the old historic district

In every dimension, I would say -- including subway access.

There may be some that rent by the hour.

For example "The Postillion" in Antwerp.
Receptionist: "How long are you planning to stay?"
Victim : "Two days"
Receptionist: "Nobody ever stayed for more than 3 hours before"
