Italy- beach towel warrior fined
 

I first spotted this story in a reprint from the "Corriere della
Sierra", but here's the Guardian version:

It appears the habit of beachtowelling is illegal in Italy.

If only hotels and cruiselines could do this around their pools.

That's a common tactic here in August.

The lidos take up the best parts of the beach, and are expensive. They
pay a premium for that part of the beach, and only have a small part
of the year to make all their money. Increasingly less and less people
are using them too. Places like Rimini have been destroyed by them.

Frankly I can't understand the idea of spending the whole of the day
in the sun. Usually I don't go to the beach until after 4, coz it's
just too damn hot.

The very concept of laying on a beach in the hot sun surrounded by a
sea of humanity is, to me, a nightmare. When I was a young sprog, my
parents would drag us to the Jersey shore, where we would splash in
the salty, polluted surf, look at fat New Yorkers, choke down gritty
sandwiches and suffer nasty sunburns. When I think back on these days,
all I can remember is the stench of the surf, the intense boredom and
a keen desire to get out of the sun.

In my early 20's I moved to Los Angeles. Obviously, I *had* to check
out the beach, so I went to Venice and Santa Monica a few times. It
was an improvement over New Jersey. There were hot chix, clean sand
and smaller mobs. But I still got bored and I still got nasty
sunburns.

Nowadays, the very idea of laying on a towel on a hot beach is
anathema. I live on the NW coast of the US, and the beaches here suit
me. Craggy rocks, huge pine trees providing shade, people quietly
hopping over rocks and rummaging for seashells.

The world can have its sandy beaches and Pamela Andersons. I'll take
the rocky shores and the Hilary Swanks.

Ummm ... Pamela Anderson grew up in Ladysmith, on Vancouver Island BC,
and Hilary Swank in Bellingham WA.
Can't get much more NW than that, eh?

i hate those sort of beaches, just not what I'm looking for from a

scRunge's IQ is less by an order of magnitude than product of the number of

Admittedly it holds some appeal if you are under 25 and wanna party
like crazy for the summer. Endless totty!
