My wife and I are considering a package by Sceptre Island where you get
airfare, 5 night B&B stays, and car with unlimited mileage for $489 from
Chicago. It sounds like a good deal except for possible weather and short
days that time of year. I understand the sun rises at 8:30am and sets around
5:30pm.I am very excited about this possible trip as it may be quite a while
before we are able to travel again. Has anyone taken this trip in past years
in November? If so please let me know how it went.

I spent my first honeymoon in Ireland in November (1989), and we were
blessed with great weather. I've since moved to Ireland (and upgraded the
husband!) and discovered just how lucky we were with the weather! November
can be good, or it can be dire. Nevertheless, I think it's a gamble worth
taking - even if it rains every day, the rain suits the countryside, and you
get to see why it's as green as it is here. Of course, it's usually dry in
the pubs even in the worst weather (although the pubs are emptier than usual
in November, because some people give up the drink for that month in
preparation for the onslaught of Christmas!).
I personally like the shorter days - it's my favourite time of year - please
don't them put you off!

Spent a week with my family in Dublin in November 2000.
It was chilly and it did get dark early, though no earlier than it does in
Boston
in November. Sunrise did seem late, but even though the sun wasn't up 'til
8-ish,
it was light out.
It was a bit warmer than average Boston temperatures in
November, but rainy for our first 2 or 3 days. I understand that it was
unseasonably rainy the
week we were there, though - there was some street flooding in Dublin and
our
flight in was delayed due to storms.
Average temperatures were in the high 40s(F) - low 50s.
Breezy and cool, but a good temperature for lots of outdoor walking.
We stayed in the city mostly and took a few daytrips outside it to
Glendalough, Newgrange and the like.
We had a great time, I thought Ireland in November was wonderful and
I'd go again in November (or anytime of year) without hesitation.

You overlook the bit about the sun skulking behind clouds most of the
time between its gentleman's rising time and its infant's bed time.
But worry not: concentrate on towns and urban pleasures a bit more,
and on inspecting the scenery a bit less. You can find plenty of ways
to enjoy yourselves.
The quoted price looks fantastic, at least from my side of the pond. I
wish I could get a deal in the US at such rates.

Late October/November is my favourite time to visit Ireland.
Most of the tourists are gone so you can go sightseeing without crowds
of people.
The weather is not bad. I live in Ottawa Canada so it's relative. We
usually have snow in November.
Go. You'll hav a great time.

November is horrible in Ireland, which is probably one reason why the travel
package is so cheap.

I normally spend November in Ireland (as I spend most of the rest of
the year). I don't think it is horrible. Just don't expect summer
weather. The package is cheap because it's off-season.

I have had my eye on that package, too. Don't know if I would be able to
drive on the left side of the road. By the way, please, are the clutch,
brake and gas pedals the same as in a car in the states?

If you are afraid of driving on the left side of the road don't be....it just
takes a little while before you become acclimated to it. Also, if you are
kinda' afraid of driving a stick shift, be sure to ask for an automatic. You
will pay extra for it but it is worth it.

Paul,
November is not horrible in Ireland, no more than anywhere else. We
get weather of all sorts. Sunburn is unlikely in November, as is
frostbite. There will probably be a drop of rain or two, but I
understand this is not a life threatening eventuality. If he is
coming to Ireland in November, he has enough sense to know that he is
not visiting Tuscany in Summer.
One thing is for sure, the gentleman will enjoy his holiday. He and
his wife will be made welcome, and will find lots to do. Short days
mean long nights and ther eis plenty of entertainment.

I've only been twice, both times in early March. One time it was
beautiful and hardly rained one day out of ten; the other time it
snowed the first four days. But we had a great time in spite of the
weather, and I wouldn't hesitate to go in November, though earlier
would probably be better than later. If you're looking for music in a
session house, that shouldn't be a problem either.

We were in Ireland in April, beautiful weather but cold for us, for we are
from sunny Florida. One day it poured rain but didn't stop us from enjoying
the day. We are in the midst of planning a 10 day self-drive holiday in
late March 2004.
