I have 10 days and I fly into Dublin. I want to do some sort of loop
south and west and swing back to dublin.
here is my tentative itinerary. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated because we want the trip to be as special and efficient as
possible:
1 - Dublin
2 - Dublin - possible day trip to Tara
3 - Dublin - possible day trip to Newbridge
4 - Cork
5 - Cork / Kerry
6 - Kerry / Dingle
7 - Gallway
8 - Gallway / Aeron Islands
9 - Dublin
10 - Dublin - leave in the morning
thanks for your help.

IMO your spending to much time in Dublin, if you fly in there its good
to have your first night there to give you time to get your bearings etc.
How are you traveling? You planning to use a rental car? Or train/bus?
If your train/bus - When you wakeup the next morning, catch a shuttle,
or a taxi, or walk (depending where your staying) to the west side of
dublin to heuston station (train). Get a ticket to Westport, its due west of
dublin and about 5 miles from the ocean. The train ride is really nice and
you get to see alot of the country side.. and probably have some nice
conversation with a local to get ideas on other places to go.
From Westport its up to you, spend some time on the Dingle Peninsula,
definitely head down to Galway. You can take one of the day tours to the
Aran islands, or just catch a ferry and do it on your own. Everything is
within easy train/bus distance from Galway.. its a good place to stage
your adventure. Go to the kings head tavern.. a local cover band plays
there alot (and at other pubs in Galway) called The Lewd Tunes... they
are great.![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also, if your in Westport, there is a cool little town called Luisburgh which is
southwest of Westport.. only about 10-15 miles away. There is daily bus
service from Westport to Louisburgh. I dont remember the date exactly,
but i think sometime in the next week or 2 they will be having a volunteer
walk/hike for charity (to support the local volunteer search and rescue
crews who go into the mountains to find/rescue lost tourists
).. it starts
at a town about 20 miles south of louisburgh and ends in louisburgh with
a nice lunch (and pints im sure!). If your the active sort that may be fun,
wish i was still there for it.
By the way, when your in Dublin check out the National Musuem and Gallery..
they are both worth it once your there.

Not enough in Tara to justify a day trip. Add in Slane (visit to Slane
Castle; monastic ruins on Slane Hill) and Newgrange/Knowth.

Newbridge? Why?

Hey, orangeman! There is plenty of good stuff in and around Dublin.

I see from another post that you will be using public transport. Scrub
my suggestion: it's not workable that way.
I don't think Tara is worth the trouble on its own. Take a bus to
Glendalough, a monastic site in a Wicklow mountain valley, and go for
a walk. Much better.

You're heading in the same direction as every other prospective visitor
to Ireland who's posted here. Why not go north to Antrim and Donegal?
There's scenery to match anything in Kerry and it won't be half as
crowded.
