We're going to Italy for two weeks at the end of the month.
A week in Rome and Florence and the rest of the time
traveling around the countryside.
Are Internet Cafes generally available out in the country?
Umbria and Tuscany?
Thanks for any insights.

Internet cafes exist in any decent sized town in Italy. You will need
your passport though, as Italian authorities have a hatred of trees,
and will want a photocopy for some good reason.

You will not generally see them out in the country. However, if you
ask at a tourist office, they may be able to find you something.
Libraries may have them, or clubs for teenagers. However, out in the
country, town libraries may be hidden inside some building with no
sign on the door.

I found them in major cities such as Milan, Florence, Rome. Also
Venice, Siena, Perugia, Orvieto, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Sorrento.
google europe cybercafes and you'll find some sites that list
locations.

In addition to the places in Umbria Carole has already listed, I can
vouch for Assisi. There was a lone computer for tourist use in at least
two of the small cafes on the main pedestrian street there, and, likely,
there were more internet cafes in the main piazza.
We weren't looking for internet cafes when we were in Spoleto and Spello
for day trips, but Spoleto is a large town with every amenity so you'll
likely find one there.

I forgot about Assisi...my niece found one in Cortona, IIRC...they are
so common...we found them in Croatian towns and on small Greek
islands...I don't remember one in Vernazza last timeI was there, but
on the other hand Vernazza has a self-service laundromat!

The original poster asked about "out in the country": I take that to
mean towns a lot smaller than anything in your list. However, maybe
the original poster thinks that Perugia is out in the country.

I live "out in the country", in a town of about 5000 inhabitants,
where the next larger town any direction is half an hour's drive.
There are no internet points in my town, nor in any of the other small
towns nearby. I thought that's what the original poster meant by "out
in the country". Spello is a small town, but all the other towns Karen
and you have mentioned are not small towns. They are all cities.

I took the original post to mean anything outside the predictable
Rome-Florence-Venice tourist track.
We haven't heard from the OP complaining about the list of towns we
supplied or thanking us, so who knows what he/she really meant.

We'll be spending three days in Rome, two days in Florence, and the
rest of the time we'll be wandering around the countryside in between
these two cities, probably avoiding cities and larger towns.
We're just going to "wing it" while we see the countryside, eat the
food, drink the wine, and meet the people.
I've printed the information from previous posts and would like to thank
those who have responded.

Remember if you don't see an internet point and you want to check your
email, ask in the tourist office.

In smaller towns, just look for signs. We used one in a florist and one in
somebody's private home.
