Info on Victoria Express
I sure have lots of questions :blush
I will be arriving at Gatwick on 26Dec 7:00am. And I am planning on taking the Victoria Express. Now my question is I will be travelling with about 4-5 big suitcase, a pram and an 8mo old baby. Do you think, I would have suffecient time to load/unload all this on the train? How much is the train fare per adult? Is it extra for luggage? Also, does Gatwick airport provide any kind of storage, and if yes, how much is it for storage? Thanks :) |
Re: Info on Victoria Express
Is there anyway to pare down your luggage. Can you "backpack" the baby and
leave the pram home? Can you limit yourself to one suitcase for yourself and one for the baby? Food and diapers are certainly available in London. If you need more clothing for the baby, buy it in London where they have lovely things. Hopefully someone will be helpful but that isn't always the case. You have got a serious problem, I'm afraid. The British railway network closes on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. To the best of my knowledge and belief, the Gatwick Express is not an exception. I very much hope that I am mistaken, but do seriously advise you to check whether or not the service will be operating on that day. Alan Harrison |

Gatwick Express services are running both on Christmas & Boxing Day, at a 30-minute interval frequency. But you will have time to load the luggage on the train. |

If you enter, say, Portsmouth to London Victoria it gives train times for both 25th and 26th December. Even though there are certainly no trains from Portsmouth on either of those dates. phil |

The site is all over the place! I've just checked two routes with which I'm familiar, Walsall to Birmingham and West Drayton to Paddington for 25 December. The latter correctly indicates no service, but Walsall allegedly has one train to B'ham on both Xmas Day and Boxing Day, at 20.50. I tried the GE website, http://www.gatwickexpress.co.uk/ , but didn't find it terribly informative. The "Contact us" button didn't work. Alan Harrison |
Re: Info on Victoria Express
I think you may need to stand near someone helpful-looking on the
station, you should be OK. Your real problem will be at Victoria - this is far too much to manoeuve through the Tube on your own. You will need a taxi and you may have to wait a while: there won't be a rush hour, since the 26th is a public holiday - and nothing moves on the 25th, so things are slow starting up on the 26th. Can't help on Gatwick storage, try http://www.baa.co.uk and look for the Gatwick links. You might find it worthwhile searching the message boards at www.fodors.com for information about travel options from Gatwick that people have found helpful. It did work when I tried again using IE at home. I telephoned the contact number, but the recorded announcement didn't go far enough ahead to indicate what if any service would operate on Christmas Day and/or Boxing Day. Alan Harrison |
