Default Info req'd Porto to Santiago walk

I plan to walk the Porto to Santiago pilgrimage route in late September -
early October.
After consulting numerous web sites and the Portuguese tourist bureau I have
been unable to find recent detailed guides and maps for the route, in
English. (The CSJ publication is from 1998). I would appreciate help in
finding any reliable publications and detailed maps to assist me.
Also:
1. what kind of weather should I expect at that time of year (temp, # days
rain)?
2. recommendations for an inexpensive pensao in Porto either near the City
centre or near the pilgrimage route
3. festivals along the route at that time of year
4. specific prohibitions regarding taking photographs
5. Does Iberia still offer reduced fare tickets to those who present a
Compostela to them? If so, is the offer only available for flights within
Spain?
6. recommendations regarding areas and sites of outstanding merit
(architectural, historical, religious, natural beauty) along the way
7. places, situations to avoid.
Thank you all in advance for any and all information.
Dennis

I only knew the routes from San Sebastian and Sevilla! You could
try Stanfords web site.

hello Dennis !
This sounds adventurous ! I just read a report at
http://www.travelintelligence.com/ws...s/art_120.html about the same
walk : The Camino Portugues , and it sounds WET wet wet ! but of course that
was at Easter 2000. I have a sneaky feeling that the weather in late Sept
could be ideal for walking (but take some wet weather gear in case !)

I think that there ust be some good informaion available on the WWW. I
looked up Camino Portugues and immediately spotted some local maps at
Pontevedra, around Vigo,
http://www.riasbaixas.org/web/index....secc_pal=rutas but I am
sure you can find more.

it may be worthwhile dropping Stanfords in london an eamil and ask them.
They usually have excellent researchers for any map or guide book.
www.stanfords.co.uk

I'll keep my eyes open for anything.
Hasta la vista ! Obrigado !

I did notice that the Confraternity of St James (charity in London) does
apparently have some guide
http://www.csj.org.uk/route-camino-portugues.html from the bookshop but I
guess it is worth emailing or phoning them before deciding if it's what you
need.
( The Confraternity Guide to the Portuguese route is available from our
on-line Bookshop)

I noticed that you have looked at CSJ but said that the guide was out of
date. According to the above page, the guide was originally published in
1988 but UPDATED in 2000. I wonder if you spotted that. Written by R Pascoe
and F Davey. Maybe you can get in touch with Mr Pascoe directly and quiz
him ! Let me know if you need any help in london.

Hi Dennis:
I just typed "camino portugues" and I've found some websites, most of
them in spanish.
www.xacobeo.es (official site, many languages, but information only
about spanish area)

http://www.amigosdelcamino.com/
(friends of the way, spanish and galician language website )

http://www.amigosdelcamino.com/web/c...o&cod=2&cual=0
map from Ponte de Lima (not from Porto)
http://www.terra.es/personal/dgruiz/

In Portugal (and portuguese) ....
Associação dos Amigos do Caminho de Santiago do Norte de Portugal
Tel.: (00 351) 91 988 29 39
4470-213 - MAIA
e_mail: [email protected]
Web: www.caminhoportugues.web.pt

Associação dos Amigos do Caminho Português de Santiago
Rua do Carrezido, nº 7
4990-139 - PONTE DE LIMA
Tel. (+351}, 258 900600
Fax. (+351}, 258 900 609
e_mail: [email protected]

Weather: clouds, sun, some rains ... autum weather. The only thing
sure is temperature: not cold not hot (15-25)

No restrictions taken photos.
Oporto is a big city with highways all around, I can't imagine the way
out. What about taking a train to the next village on the way ?

I'm sorry, I can't help much more. Today I'm starting my holidays, so
no more computer.
Good luck.
Carlos A.
