Well, some Indian cuisines /do/ use cheese quite a bit, of course...I
wonder if the answer to The Reid's musing is the Chinese
lactose-intolerance thing. I don't know how much that is reality and how
much myth.

They're just speed bumps.
Obviously, paneer is a big part of the Indian diet along with curd and
yoghurt. However, Mike did mention "far eastern food" by which I assumed he
meant Asia, say, east of the Andamans.

Quite a bit, given my experience with them. Feed a Chinaman a good
lump of cheddar, and he'll power a wind farm.

I've seen a friend of mine from Shanghai wolf into all the reception
cheese after a concert, and it never seems to bother her AFAIK. She also
has this annoying habit of putting on no weight no matter how much of it
she scoffs down!

It's Philip, by the way ... he is one of yours, afer all. (Royal spellings
don't count as spelling flames).
And of course that's not too PC at all.

I find it vaguely worrying you would care exactly how Phil the Greek
spells his name.
Why do you think Royal names are exempt from the normal courtesies?
