Iceland Itinerary/Time Recommendations?

I'm working on a possible trip to Iceland, possibly this summer. My time
frame would probably be about 10 days to two weeks, and I'm wondering if
this is a reasonable amount of time to tour around the country. I'm thinking
of renting a car and driving the ring road, taking in the major natural
sights (along, or readily accessible to, major roads), museums etc.
I'd appreciate any comments on (particularly) the proposed time frame, and
any other suggestions of recommended places to "not miss" and any key
practicalities (e.g. rental car issues) to take into account while planning.
Thanks

I visited Iceland for a week, doing the ring road by bus. There were
only a few things I didn't do that I would have liked to have done. So
I think that a 10-14 day visit should be fine. I particularly liked
the east coast region, and would recommend a short horseback ride as
the Icelandic horses are wonderful to ride with their unique extra
gait.

Iceland is a fantastic place... I went twice, in 2000 and 2002, and I have
put up some pictures and informations on my site, here :
http://www.masse-fr.com/Islande_2/Is...sarlon1_A.html
Both times, we rented a Land Rover with a camper on the back : we could go
anywhere, and camp wherever we felt like. Not as expensive as it sounds,
when you look at the prices in hotels and restaurants...
In my opinion, two weeks is a minimum, if you want to go around the island
(on my second trip, we stayed two weeks, but we went only to the south). If
you stay only a week, you will rush from place to place, and won't have time
to wait for the weather to improve...
Have a nice vacation !

I just returned , having had exceptional
experiences viewing landscape and natural beauty not seen before. But
, be prepared for the price of food. Visiting the Blue Lagoon, two
people ordered just coffee and nothing special hamburgers, which came to
=in dollars= $50. The food was wonderful, particularly the lamb and fish
dishes, but prices are beyond reason.
enjoy yourself ...the land is mystical.

Be aware that the prices in the Blue lagoon are considered very high by
Icelandic standards, they are not representative of the prices
elsewhere in Iceland.

I would recommend to spend at least 2 weeks on that tour.
Last year, we went from Akureyri via the ring road along the east and
south coast and it took us about 17 days. (see also here:

We did that, too, but also spent several days hiking, e.g. in the
beautiful landscape of Joekullsargljufur.
