how many vehicles on the M25
Driving round this the other day when v congested, I wondered... in a snapshot, how
many vehicles on this at any one instant? 3-4 lanes, 125 miles, 2 ways, use 150 miles to cover the 4-lane bits; 150 * 2 * 3 = 900 very full miles. but how many vehicles? anyone know where the statistics/figures live please? someone must publish them surely... |

I remember driving around part of it for about half an hour and only seeing 2 vehicles coming in the opposite direction and none going the same way as me. No road works, no closures, not before it was built etc etc. Can anybody guess how I did that ? |

All the other cars were stuck, so they weren't "coming" or "going". Am I right? |

Answer: You had just smashed into the rear of motorcycle which slewed over the road and came to a stop in the central lane blocking any vehicles coming up behind which, as a result, slammed on their breaks resulting in multiple crunches and some whiplashes. You had been eating some candy floss at the time of impact with the bike and talking to your best girlfriend on your mobile about the recent 'friend' you had met in the queue at McDonalds. It so happens that your girlfriend was approaching on the other side a few miles distant in her lorry. She was distracted by her 'male friend' who was trying a new way of moving the gear stick without using a hand. At this time a police car behind the lorry, displayed flashing lights because of the warning about the motorbike accident ahead. The police car slowed down and dropped some emergency warning CONES and then overtook the lorry. Meanwhile, half an hour later, you still had no traffic behind you AND you had not noticed the policecar AND the lorry passing. Am I getting warm ? |

Believe me - you REALLY do NOT want to know about THAT party :-( (and as I am just about to fly of to the Southern Hemisphere - I'm not going to tell you) |
Re: how many vehicles on the M25
Do the petrolheads still race around the M25? What's the current target time and what does that mean in MPH?

And to think that its only, what, 15 years ago that people used to brag about racing round it. |

Not quite what you wanted, but close: - http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z583124B1 (number of vehicle per day average and peak) M25 East from A1(M) to M23 108,000 123,000 M25 West from A1(M) to M23 133,000 164,000 [Back to Top |

Divide by around 12 hours peak driving and that's a massive 40 yards per car! You get about 10ft. in rush hours if you're lucky! I'd have thought there was much more traffic than 287,000 cars per day. Is the M25 only 125 miles? My 3 hours for charging round sounds too long, then, even with traffic, etc. Can anyone else remember? Surreyman |
