How to get to Lefkas in May - Ferry from Italy maybe?
How to get to Lefkas in May - Ferry from Italy maybe?
Hope someone might have some advice. I need to get to Lefkas from the UK in late May but the flights to Preveza are very expensive. I can get cheap flights to Brindisi or Ancona in Italy and think there may be ferries to Igoumenitsa. I have also heard it may be possible to get a bus from Athens or a ferry from Corfu, to where I can usually get a cheap package holiday. 1. Does anyone know a good/cheap ferry company to try for an Italy to Igoumenitsa trip? 2. How much is that likely to cost and how long will it take? 3. How to get from Igoumenitsa to Lefkas? 4. Is it possible to get a but ot Lefkas from Athens and if so how much/cost etc? 5. Are there ferries from Corfu to Lefkas? How much etc? 6. Any other suggestions? Thank you for any help and advice. We've been on a sailing trip from Lefkas a few years back, and we flew to Preveza. Olympic Airways, but there was no alternative we could come up with on our dates. At Preveza airport, I recall there were a number of package tour flights arriving from the UK. Have you checked these out? From Preveza airport we got a pre-booked taxi. This is advisable as the airport falls into the "Ryanair disused military airbase" category, meaning when the last plane takes off, they turn the lights off and pack up. BTW Lefkas is not really an island, it's just separated from the mainland by a channel about 20' wide.. the channel was built by some locals with a brilliant business concept about 2,500 years ago. Thanks for all the advice Tom. Actually, I know Lefkas reasonably well as I have a yacht out there, but the cost of the flights at the moment for when I want to go is ridiculous. I flew out a couple of times last year and also used Olympic Airways, who seemed ok. I understand that Lefkas are keen to keep their island status, hence why the bridge is technically classed as a ferry, so they can hang onto their island tax breaks and grants etc. But like you say, in all other respects it is part of the mainland. I have come across a ferry that 'might' run between Kefalonia and southern Lefkas so if I can confirm it then it opens up the possibility of a package deal to Kefalonia to get there. I've used that ferry a few times. It goes Fiscardo - Vasiliki and Fiscardo - Nidri a couple of times a day. -- Mike, G4LTI QSL manager for ZD8I http://www.zd8i.net |

It's worth checking Sunsail's website regularly. They occasionally have unsold seats on their charter flights at bargain prices. http://www.sunsailflights.co.uk/show...p?data=Preveza -- Mike, G4LTI QSL manager for ZD8I http://www.zd8i.net |

It took about one and a half hours and cost 10 euros return per person from Nidri to Fiscardo for a day trip. I have several friends who live on the island and will ask them for the 2005 timetable. -- Mike, G4LTI QSL manager for ZD8I http://www.zd8i.net |
