I have a Eurail pass and will use it to travel from Paris to Brussels.
Apparently the train stops at the Gare du Midi in Brussels, but I want to
get off at the Gare Centrale. Any suggestions about how to get there?
Thanks,
Steve

It isn't a far walk and the walk takes you by some interesting buildings in
the Grand Sablon but otherwise take a local such as the train to Zaavendem
(airport) Centrale is only one stop away.

You can get pedestrian routes at www.mappy.com. There isn't any Gare du
Midi that I could find...do you mean the Gare Bruxelles-Central?

The only station in Brussels where direct trains from Paris (Thalys and SNCF
TGVs from Marne-la-Vallée Chessy and Aeroport CDG, via Lille Europe) stop is
called "Bruxelles Midi/Brussel Zuid". It is a major transport interchange
located on the south side of the inner ring road, about 3 km from the Grand'
Place (which is in the city centre). You have three main options (start by
getting a town plan/map from the Tourist kiosk in the central circulating
area):
- walking via Ave Fonsny, the boulevards de Stalingrad and du Midi,
- following the tram pictogram signs to the ground-level tram halt and
taking a tram north on any route *except 18, 82 and 83* that run underground
beneath a series of boulevards (get off at 'Bourse/Beurs' and walk about
250m east) or
- taking any non-international train heading north from Midi/Zuid to
Bruxelles Centrale/Brussel Centraal' and then walk about 250m west.
As you hold a Eurail Pass, the last-mentioned option is the obvious
solution. Trains run frequently (but from different platforms) and you
should confirm that 'Bruxelles Centrale/Brussel Centraal' appears on the
list of stopping-points given on the flat-screen display *at the foot of the
escalator or stairs* giving access to the platform concerned (Note: this
list is NOT displayed on the plaftform itself). The rail journey takes only
a few minutes.

Take a connecting train or chose a train from Paris that stops at
both.

No! in fact, nearer 1.5 km/1 mile from the Grand'

BTW, the street plans of both www.mappy.be and www.viamichelin.com show the
station as 'Bruxelles Central' . And the latter shows the starting point as
"Bruxelles Zuid" - presumably the full name in both languages takes too much
space ;-)

Bruxelles Midi = Brussels South.
Just catch a train to Brussels Central (lots of them : all trains going east
of Brussels )When you are at Bruxelles Central, a short walk (12-15 minutes
will) take you to the Grand Place.
Incidentally, if you can spare the time, try to walk through the Royal St
Hubert Galleries, they are well worth a visit too.
Have a nice trip

I guess you know you need a passholder fare Thalys ticket while
traveling direct from Paris to Brussels?
