How does the Slovenia Car Train work
Can someone give me a rundown on how to use the AUTOVLAK from Most No
Soci to Bohinj Bistrica? I've located the timetable, but how far in advance do you need to arrive to get space (btw - how much space is there? The photos I've seen show trains with about four flatcars, each holding 2-3 cars). Do you drive on and just set your parking brake, or is the car stabilized some other way? (we'll be driving a rental). |

In both cases doing so later may or may not work ... Regards, Martin Theodor Ludwig |

Used at several places in the Alps for sites where railway-tunnels are the only way avoiding long detours. Well known tunnels in Switzerland working this way are Lötschberg, Furka, Oberalp, Albula More info on websites http://www.bls.ch/autoverlad/ with detailed instructions at http://www.bls.ch/autoverlad/diashow_e.html For those relatively short distances, driver and passengers stay in the car; trains circulate frequently and no reservation is required (or even not possible) For long[er] distance car-trains (more than just a tunnel) reservation usually is required or recommended, driver and passengers leave car. Vereina in the Swiss Alps is one of http://www.rhb.ch/autoverlad/albula/albula_main.d.php and close to all long distance trains in countries such as Austria, Germany, France http://www.autozug-online.de/ Compilation of most of those car-trains is at http://www.autoreisezuege-in-europa.de/index.htm As there seems to be very little information on the net regarding the train in Slovenia you are looking for, you might get better answers at http://forum.virtualtourist.com/foru...a-1-forum.html for example (?) |

The guy at the railway's call centre said you don't need to book in advance, but have to be aware that the loading stops 10 minutes before the scheduled departure. Have you tried writing to them at [email protected]? Gorazd |
