I'm considering the Hotel Trianon in Ghent, Belgium, as part of a
vacation destination in September. Has anyone in rte-land stayed
here? Reports, please. Looks nice, but seems to be a bit close
to the train station.

I don't know the hotel, but I remember the area south of the train
station as a quiet residential area. Well, the trains will probably
make some noise.

I've stayed in the Hotel Ascona which is about 500 metres south of the
train station on Voskenslaan. I had a very pleasant stay there and
it was very convenient to be able to walk to the station and travel to
Brussels, or Knokke or wherever. It was also quite a nice walk into
the older part of Ghent. I thought the area to be reasonably quiet
and I can't recall ever being aware of the trains. I don't remember
the Trianon so I cannot say what it might be like (but I do remember
the little pastry shop en route to the station where I used to treat
myself. Yummy).

I don't think that this is the hotel that I stayed in but it
is at almost the same place.
It was *extreamly* noisy,....... all night.

I live 100 metres from that hotel. The railway line is nearby, but
there is remarkably little noise. The tracks are in good condition and
trains are a lot quieter nowadays than they used to be. Visitors in my
house often remark how much more silent it is than they expected.
A big street is often a lot noisier, so I'd say go for it. The area is
a very pleasant and green residential area, unlike many railway
station areas elsewhere in the world. I choose to live here exactly
because of the proximity to the station.

What a Fantastic Hotel. There is two actually Trianon1 and Trianon2
both next door to each other. Trianon 2 is the best. Lovely Hotel
and staff with Great Breakfast. Whats more a jacuzzi bath as
standard. noise of trains didnt bother us at all. Great being near
station as also near trams which take you every where. I have been to
ghent at least 4 times and wouldnt stay anywhere else.
