Hotel Marteli in Florence
Hello,
My travel agent is recommending Hotel Marteli in Florence and Hotel
Veneto in Rome. What do you think about these? The accomodations
look very good. However, what about the location? The atmosphere?
The service? Would you recommend any other hotel instead? I saw some
discussions about Veneto on this group, but Marteli did not bring up
any search results (in English).
Thank you very much for your help!

I know neither hotel, but I'll offer comments on their locations.
The Martelli doesn't look bad, but I don't like the location of
the Veneto in Rome at all.
It's on the Via Veneto, a very well-known tourist street, with
lots of posh expensive hotels, expensive shopping, and overpriced
restaurants. Although many people like it, that's not at all what
I want when I travel, and whenever I go to Rome, I stay as far
away from the Via Veneto as possible.
Moreover, it's on the extreme northern fringe of the central
tourist area, where most of the places you probably want to go
are located. That central tourist area is small enough so that
the Via Veneto isn't *terribly* far from most places, but I would
greatly prefer to be more centrally located, around the Piazza
Navona, Pantheon, Campo de' Fiori areas.
