Default Hotel Continental in Barcelona

I kept looking for info on this hotel BEFORE we left - hopefully this
will help someone else.

Continental Hotel Barcelona

We stayed here in 10/03. We were flying in from Sevilla and took the
airport bus to Catalunya Place about 1/2 block from the Hotel. The
airport bus was parked in front of the airport with plenty of room for
the luggage and it cost 3.45 euro each.

We had read much - pro and con - about the Continental Hotel but
decided to stay here because of the location and the very reasonable
price in an expensive city.

We were pleased and would stay again in a heartbeat. We booked a
balcony room - about 4 available - knowing that it might be noisy -
and packed our ear-plugs if needed. We were able to sit out on the
balcony and watch the action. And at night, we drifted off to sleep -
balcony door open - to the haunting sounds of some street music.
Granted, this was late October (perfect weather) and it might have
been too noisy earlier in the year. The room was just fine. Two beds
were pushed together. One bed was very hard and one med hard. There
was a ceiling fan which we always like. There was a mini fridge, a
microwave, a safe, a nice clean bathroom, and very nice linens on the
bed. Towels were clean but a little scratchy.

The price was 95 euro which included a great buffet breakfast and
taxes. Breakfast was everything from fruit to nuts! Boiled eggs,
prunes, raisins, sunflower seeds, all kinds of fresh fruit, yogurt,
cheese, cereals, juices, milk, tea, coffee, toast, jam, all kinds of
pastries. They left the coffee. tea and milk out 24 hours with some
pastries. There was a nice room to eat in, and a balcony off the
breakfast room was available too.

When we checked out, we called for a taxi earlier than we had
requested - the man had a monitor and wouldn't let us leave until the
taxi was right in front of the hotel and the door was open. I think
they are very cautious being right on the Ramblas. We had no problem
of any kind.

Taxi fare back to the Barcelona airport was (including tip and luggage
charge) 20 euros.

Bear in mind that we are budget travelers, and this might not be
appropriate for everyone, but this was our opinion!

Default Re: Hotel Continental in Barcelona

Just like you, I was very impressed with the Hotel Continental. Unlike you,
I would never take a room facing the La Rambla because I probably would not
be able to sleep due to the noise situation, though it's nice to for
people-watching. I got a room facing inside and though the view consisted of
a concrete wall, it was very quiet and the rooms are furnished very nicely.
If the Hotel Continental is fully booked, my backup hotel is the Hotel
Turin, only a few blocks from the Continental. About the same price but it's
1 block in from La Rambla.
