Default Hotel Brasile in Rome

We're going in a few weeks and I'm curious if anyone has stayed there. TIA

I haven't stayed there but I know the area.
There have been a few women murdered within a couple of blocks of this
hotel!
But as long as you are not a Vestal Virgin who has broken or has been
accused of breaking her 'vow of chastity' it's a pretty safe area:).
Sorry couldn't resist. Near this hotel was where the ancient Romans
entombed alive Vestal Virgins for that offense.
The Porta Collina (an ancient city gate) was uncovered beneath the
Pallazzo delle Finanze. And they know that outside that gate was were
this tomb was located. Via XX Settembre still follows the ancient
roadway.
Seeing that you are in the area. A modern historian places the tomb at
the corner of Via XX Settembre and Via Castelfidardo beneath the
pharmacy (you'll see a 'green cross' sign).
Others based on Livy's writings (he said it was on a paved sideroad
outside the gate) place it around Via Goito, 50m from the north corner
of the Pallazzo delle Finanze.
For hotel reviews try www.tripadvisor.com and www.venere.com (they are
a hotel booking service but they also post guest reviews). Also the
Fodor's Forum (post & search) www.fodors.com/forums/
This hotel is a bit out of the loop but you have 3 close-by buses
(either within a block or right by the hotel). So you will either catch
them on Via XX Settembre or on Via Palestro (your hotel's street).
The 60 Express bus will get you to the Piazza Venezia, Roman Forum,
Colosseum & Circus Maximus.
The 62 will get you to the Piazza Barberini, Trevi (the 61 bus will
also get you this far), Piazza Venezia, Largo Torre Argentina (close to
the Pantheon) and alittle further along close to the Piazza Navona, it
will cross the Tiber River and get you close to St. Peter's Basilica.
The 84 bus goes past Termini and down Via Cavour to the Roman Forum and
Piazza Venezia.
Pick-up a 'Roma Metro-Bus' map (€5.5) in Rome and it will the bus,
metro and tram routes. Regards, Walter
