It's to prevent fraud. I was dealing with someone who sells a lot of theatre
tickets on-line - I'm amazed at the level of fraud - and at least if you get
sight of the card used it goes someway to reducing the chargeback risk.

I've flown a lot with BA and never again if there's an alternative. The
treatment I and my family received from them over a booking they cocked up
was very badly handled. When I wrote to complain I didn't even get the
courtesy of a reply. So I've taken my business elsewhere and would
thoroughly recommend Emirates if going eastwards.

Ryan Air and Easy Jet are great - I've had several great bargains off them
and without exception have always been on time, although I feel for them
when it all goes wrong as the wingers who paid £0.10p for their flight start
to scream at the merest whiff of a delay.

Just flown them once, from BCN to Shiphol, then to the middle east and
back, I had wine on economy on both short hops. Food was a packed
sandwich, too.

I will be flying them again on September to Kiev, so I will update you
on their service then :)

If they had paid £100.00 for their flight, would they have been
entitled to scream?

BA or KLM?. Not Easyjet.

On some KLM flights the check-in person first claims the flight
doesn't exist, then that it's cancelled, then asks for your reference
number, then tells you it exists after all but you'll have to go to
the gate and sit up and beg for a seat, woof woof.

Then of course everything is randomly delayed.

This would be a more useful tip if you were routinely given a choice,
of course.

On an Amsterdam-Bristol Fokker 100 flight on Sunday I couldn't get a
gin and tonic for love nor money, and especially not money. Next time
I'll take my own wodka to add to the orange juice they dispense.

Easyjet asked me for the number once when I didn't have it. They
then looked it up for me, while admittedly also sighing and giving me
pitying looks.

Not to mention telling you that an Australian visa is invalid because
in their computerised version a space or something similar has been
inserted, then fixing the problem so that when you get to Melbourne
it's invalid in the Australian immigration computer too.

I always had a choice. I had row 11 booked automatically in F70s.
Maybe
'cos I had a Flying Dutchman Plutonium card.

Duh! How do they say it?

Somebody here recalls a newspaper article saying that KLM were going
to start serving alcoholic drinks again.

There is not much point in screaming at the girl at the check in desk.

Is it okay to scream if the person at the desk is male?

Given Ryanair's attitude to customer relations, do you think they
would act in the same way?

It seems to me that many people regard having an alcoholic drink
(preferably a free one) as an essential part of flying.

I certainly do, but I am ready and willing to pay cold hard cash if
that's what it takes. I would certainly like to have a frank exchange
of views with the KLM strategy personoid that decided "giving" (i.e.,
bundling into the ticket price) people something they don't want is a
better strategy than selling (i.e., exchanging for additional cash)
them something they do.

And "meals". Also stewardesses in Asian airlines seem to retire at the age
of 30 or so.
