Hi
we are a family of two adults, three kids 12, 10, 5 we wish to take a holiday home (caravan) holiday in south france, next year.
1 problem, we will be travelling from UK (midlands) by car, pref the coast for the beaches, and it will be in the main six weeks holidays for two weeks.
Is there anywhere we must go to? or is there anywhere to miss?
any help would be appreciated please!!
Thank
Helen

Actually we found a nice little campground in Alet Les Bains about 4 years
ago.
At the time it was owned by an English couple. The exact location is right
behind the old abbey.
Alet Les Bains is on the D118 south of Carcassonne which is a nice visit to
a fortified town.
The Perpignon area is also nearby and has nice beaches and campgrounds. With
3 kids this might be ideal.
We also enjoyed camping in Corsica. If memory serves me right the
campgrounds were just outside of Calvi.
To get there you can take a ferry from Nice.
These are my 3 recommendations and perhaps others can add some more.
In general, I wouldn't recommend camping on the Riviera (miss) during the
holidays because it is very busy
and there are many stoney beaches perhaps not the best for 3 kids.

I'd avoid the riviera unless you are very well-heeled and love crowds. If
you're travelling by car, I'd suggest not going too far, Brittany and
Normandy are close and have wonderful beaches as well as other attractions

Hello,
As a personal choice I would avoid most of the mediterranean sea shores from
the Italian border, let's say to Montpellier.West of Montpellier, I would
avoid the immediate surroudings on cities, especially in the Perpignan area.
This is true for the period of time in between July 15 to the end of August
- unless you like crowded palces, and high prices. My suggestion is to go to
the Southern part of Cevennes, around The Herault valley or around Gardon de
Saint Jean. There are a lot of nice places to see, caves to visit, beautiful
villages, historical places, interesting walks in very sepcial landscapes,
you can also canoe, swin in the rivers (pretty warm often!) and if you
really want it, you may even spend a day from time to time at the sea, but
avoiding again theMontpellier area.
Have a nice time,
Yves

Hey, that's near our house! (Well, a couple of towns away.) It is a
truly lovely area. The beaches to the east (about an hour away) are
wonderful - long, flat, sandy - and seldom crowded. Much less touristy
than beaches in Provence.
