Does anyone know of good RR hobby shops in Berlin, Nuremburg or Dresden?

OT but if you are in Nuernberg, you *have* to go visit the Deutsche
BundesBahn museum.

I don't know any myself but ask in:

news:de.rec.modelle.bahn

This is a German speaking NG, but I'm sure that they can help you.

Ah. I know only about Berlin. Here are some hints:

Flügelrad, in Stresemannstraße near Potsdamer Platz. Transport oriented
books of all kinds. Incidentally, to get some overview on the Berlin
transport systems, I recommend these English language books:
Berlin S-Bahn http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1854141856/
Berlin U-Bahn http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1854141848/
Amazon UK seems out of stock, but with some luck Flügelrad has them. Read
those before you explore the city :)

The regular large book stores (e.g. Hugendubel on Tauentzienstr. and
Friedrichstr., Dussmann on Friedrichstr.) have some books on transport
topics too, but not as specialised.

Google finds this http://angermueller.bei.t-online.de/handel1.htm list of
model train shops in Berlin & Eastern Germany. Somehow the most well known
ones in my mind (due to ads I guess) are:

Modellbahn-Pietsch http://www.modellbahn-pietsch.de/, and
Modelleisenbahnen Pankow, near U-Bahn stop Pankow

And while you're at it you shouldn't miss these museums:

Technikmuseum http://www.dtmb.de/, has displays about rail as well as local
transport history. Amongst others a couple of real steam locomotives.

U-Bahn Museum http://www.u-bahn-museum.de/, unfortunately with very limited
opening times: http://www.ag-berliner-u-bahn.de/termine.htm

S-Bahn Museum http://www.s-bahn-museum.de/, likewhise with limited opening
hours: http://www.s-bahn-museum.de/seiten/mustermi.php4

But maybe you're lucky :)

I assume "railroad" (at least that's what it means in the U.S.) - model
trains, in other words?

Tom

When I was at the Nuremburg Toy Show last year, I found a couple of Toy
(Spiel) stores that had very large model train sections. I can't remember
their names or exact location, but they were within the town walls close to
the hauptbahnhof (main train station).

The German Railroad Museum is definately worth a visit and has a small gift
shop.

You will not find any north american items in most of the German stores, but
it is neat to see all the European stuff.

If you buy a European locomotive, make sure it is DC, Marklin and some of
the other companies use AC.

The other problem with Märklin is that they use a "third rail" system
(one contact in the middle of the rail, the other the two rails), whereas
most others use the two rails as opposite contacts.

Re: Hobby shops in Germany

Hi there. I found this web site purely by accident. I am trying to find some R/C aircraft model shops in Germany. I am actually living in the UK but I want to compare prices to UK prices. I come to Germany every year to visit my girlfriends parents. They live in Verden so anywhere in that area would be ideal. I will travel as fra as Hannover too. Thanks for your help.
