I'm going to Portugal in a few weeks and am interested in doing some
hiking--just day hikes. I'm interested in the Parque Serras de Aire,
east of Nazare' and Peseda-Geres in the north. Anyone have info or
suggestions? Thanks!

I would suggest to check www.travelwordlwide.com
They have excellent hiking/walking tours in small groups (12-18 people
max). A friend of mine went with them to Portugal and she was glad she
did.

What kind of information are you looking for?
- Maps?
- known walking trails?
Most National Parques have a map with long haul pedestrian trails that
can be made.
Despite these the only one that I know is from Parque Nacional da
Serra da Estrela, the highest montain in mainland Portugal.
There are also a lot of companys wich main activity is to serve as a
guide to hiking, so if you need contact's I'll try to get them for
you.
Best regards,
thx1011

Maps are one thing--do they have detailed trail maps at parque entrances? Also, are the trails well or poorly marked? I also
was looking for personal recommendations of specific trails--that's better than blindly picking one. I'm just looking for day
walks/hikes of 10kms or so-without a guide. You already told me something I didn't know-that the highest mountain in P is in
Serra do Estrela.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike
A few years back we drove from Covilha up onto the Estrela. The road was
very winding and there must have recently been a cycle race as there were
lots of names and slogans painted onto the tarmac. It's sufficiently
high/cold (My map shows 1993M) that I believe that there is winter skiing up
there.
Cheers
