I believe Estonian, like Finn has no gender.

It's a word of Latin or Grek origin (I don't know which and I
don't know what word was used in Estonian.
In Finn it's not a question of being neutral: there is no gender.

same is in italian (where i live) "monastero" is good for nuns and for
monks...
Ma arvan et sooviti teada kus see *nunnaklooster* asub mitte kuidas midagi
kirjutatakse inglise keeles - pole mòtet norida - jà à gem inimesteks .

same is in italian (where i live) "monastero" is good for nuns and for
monks...

It's from Greek, monasterion, monk house. According to Webster, it sounds
like it's gender-neutral: "place of residence occupied by a community of
*persons* esp. monks, living in reclusion under religious vows."

Are people sexually neutral? :-)
(Issue was not about gender form of word, but about whether the word
monastery refers to communities of males only, or females only, or even
both mixted together, for god's greater glory presumably. An issue that's
really orthogonal to that of words having a masculine or feminine form.)

Of course, grammatic gender has little or nothing to do with with
sexuality. If it had, the German word for young women wouldn't be
neuter.
