This is what happened to my friends in looking for their luggage.

The train would have been a good option if we had been staying
anywhere near the train.

I don't think the suggestion was that one travelled with
only a carry one, but that the checked stuff was only
normal clothes etc that could easily be replaced.

I can see that the need to take formal wear makes this
hard (do they still have that nonsense on cruises)

Many cruise ships rent formal wear.

It's the main difference between taking a ferry and taking a cruise.

I have taken a little checked stuff the last couple trips, but I have
to change planes next time, so I don't intend to.

My trip includes a cruise and if someone tells me I HAVE TO dress
formally for something, I'll just skip the something.

I used to have a lot of camera gear, but I switched to a small digital
camera that fits in my pocket.

Me too.

I want a digital camera that take a picture when your press the button, as
opposed to several seconds later.

Anyone know of one?

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Just don't talk loudly if you're doing it at night. We were across
from the laundry and were often annoyed by people who thought nothing
of having loud conversations at 2 AM.

It was but I have heard of people who only take carryons.

Yes they do. i'm not against it but only brought a suit and not a tux
this time.

So many people on the ship had lost luggage that the cruise director
said that people shouldn't avoid the nights if they didn't have the
clothes they needed because of the lost luggage.

that's OK unless you want to sell photos or are a keen amateur.

i think "limited" is more the term! No decent wide angle, not enough
resolution for quality prints, no wildlife size telephoto.
Anybody trying to take half decent landscapes need a 10 or 12-24,
which alone wont fit in a pocket.
