Greece travel advice?
I leave for Greece in less than five weeks. I already have a flight booked
directly to Santorini because I knew for sure I wanted to go there for three or four days, but I have no definite plans after that. Eventually I'd like to end up in Athens so I can see the sights there and perhaps take a trip up to Delphi and/or Meteora. The total duration of my trip will be two weeks. Any suggestions on other islands I should visit before I make my way to Athens? |

They have daily ferry service with Crete. |

Crete is really nice. It takes a lot of time to go around but its worth it.
Other destinations from Santorini are Anafi isl. Folegandros isl. (Small, quiet islands) Ios isl. (small but not quiet) Paros isl. Naxos isl. (typical cyclades) Mykonos isl. (via Paros). From Athens there is organized 2days tours for Delphi and Meteora. An island along your route would be handy, i.e. one between Santorini and Athens. And as a contrast to Santorini one that is less touristy. That leaves the Cyclades, except the touristy ones which are Mykonos, Ios and Paros. Why not Naxos, or Sifnos? I have personal memory on both. :) Regards -- Ein Naßhorn und ein Trockenhorn spazierten durch die Wüste, da stolperte das Trockenhorn, und's Naßhorn sagte: "Siehste!" - Heinz Erhardt |

You might try to talk to some people who have made the trip out to Delphi before you decide to blow a day doing that. While mildly interesting, I'd personally opt for one more day in Athens or one of the islands.. The Crete suggestion is good, but.... it's awful big and you probably need a car todo it right and more time than you may have to spare. It's like a small state--actually was a separate country until recently. Very nice though. Especially Chania and (if you have the time) Paliochora. Also the palace and Knossos and the museum in town where they took all the stuff from the palace.. You also might take a look at http://www.greektravel.com/ which is the best guide to Greece I know of.. Same person also does www.greecetravel.com ... Hope this is helpful.
