Default Grand Hotel Jeanne D' Arc, Hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche, Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche

We are considering booking rooms at one or more of these hotels, and I am
wondering if anyone has knowledge or experience with them. I am also
interested in parking in the neighborhood, the best route (streets) to the
hotels coming from the north at the end of a workday (Tuesday), and opinions
on the general ambiance of the neighborhoods (e.g, cafes, noise, etc.).

1. Grand Hotel Jeanne D' Arc - Maraise near the Place des Vosges
2. Hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche - in between the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides.
3. Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche - just off Place d' Pablo Picasso Plaza in
Montparnasse

Thank you.

My information maybe a bit out-dated, but my wife and I stayed in the
Jeanne d'Arc in 1999 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff spoke
English and were very helpful. The hotel is close to a metro station.
The room was large and clean. I can't recall the cost but it would
have been reasonable.

I have to say I have a different experience at the Jeanne d'Arc in 2002. I
found the night staff person most unhelpful -- he spent most of the time
complaining that he really wanted to be a musician and couldn't find work.

1) We asked about taking the train to Giverny (we had received conflicting
information about days and times) and were told *I am not a travel agent*.
He was sitting right in front of a PC connected to the Internet, no one else
was in the lobby so we weren't taking him away from other guests. He was
just in a snit.

2) When we were checking out, there was some problem with a number of guests
(it was in the morning and many of us were trying to check out at the same
time). Their creidt card connection must have had a problem and it was
refusing almost everyone's cards. Ours worked fine, but others were left
with no recourse other than to run down to an ATM and withdraw the cash. It
was pretty clear that it was a machine problem and I guess the staff was
stuck for a good response to the situation - but they could have been polite
to the guests and helped them find alternative ways to pay. Instead they
were very hostile making the situation even more tense.

3) The lady who sets up breakfast was rather curt - and became very annoyed
if one person from a room came down to breakfast ahead of the other person
in the room (we had 6 people in 3 rooms and didn't all arrive together for
breakfast). The second person to arrive was always given less - missing jam,
no milk, whatever. Just little things to let us know that we should come
down together.

Perhaps these are just anecdotal. The hotel was fine and had a great
location, and yes the staff spoke English. But with so many nice hotels in
Paris I will use another one next time.
