Sorry everybody but I have to share my joy!
It's a return trip and I'm excited as a kid on Christmas...I love Germany! I
wanted to go to Poland too but it just didn't fit into the finances. Sigh,
Poland will be another year.
But Germany! Whooooeeeee! ]

Why? I just came back from a half day's cycling down the Rhine, idyllic
landscape, poplars, oak trees, chestnut trees, farms, cows, stopped off
in the ancient fortified village of Zons halfway between Neuss (first
mentioned AD950) and Cologne (Roman settlement), had a club sandwich for
lunch the sun was shining, happy relaxed people lying out on the beach -
did you know that the Rhine has beaches?
OK so I'm biased.

And the Rhine is actually one of the less attractive areas of Germany.

She already told us - because she loves it! Being older (presumably), I
restrain my enthusiasm, but I feel the same when I contemplate a return
visit to Vienna.

My coworkers are laughing because I'm 33 and I'm bouncing around like I'm 4.
I love Germany! I'm the boss too so it's doubley funny to them. The food,
people, new wine, beer, castles, forests, towns, everything (rockin gummy
bears!) is wonderful. I was so enamoured last time I visited that I
seriously contemplated transferring within my company to our sister offices!
They said I had to learn German first and so I've spend the entire last year
learning what may be one of the harder languages on this planet. I'm told
that my vocabulary is good and my accent is atrocious. (smile). Ah
well....I'll be there so maybe I'll actually get to use the language with
those who already speak it rather than a bunch of kids who are taking German
because Spanish and French were full.

Just came back from a train+cycle trip in Ostfriesland. One of the many
nice things about it, if you are wanting to practice the language, is that
by and large, people seem happy to let you talk to them in German
(even though imperfectly). This is probably partly because not that many
English-speaking tourists tend to go there (we only met one other
English-speaking couple the whole time).
Unfortunately, the Spargel didn't seem to agree with me, but it was the
only thing that didn't.

Hate to break it to you, but for English speakers German is one of the
easiest languages to learn! Lots of cognates, regular grammar, clear
orthography.
Next time try Finnish or Korean or Arabic.

Germany is relatively hassle-free to travel around, i.e. it works and it's
rel. safe.
Then you have the good beer, the food is okay, good (if expensive) transport
It can also be surprisingly cheap outside the big cities. I can think of few
places
in Western Europe where you can get a beer (half litre) for less than 2 Euro
(rural Bavaria). Great scenery in parts (Oberbayern), quaint old towns
(Bamberg, Passau,Heidelberg), some great cities (Hamburg, Munich..). Germany
is in my book one of the most underrated tourist destinations in Europe.

Lucky You!!! I love traveling in Germany - Munich especially, but
also the Alps, Romantic Road, Fairytale Road,... It's all great. I'd
hop on a plane anytime - have a wonderful time - where are you going?
Have some Spargel & Zweibelkuchen & Pflaumenkuchen & Spätzle for me...
Gute Fahrt!!
