Default Going to Alsace, got questions

Hi,

I just reserved my plane tickets and rail pass to go to Alsace. I fly
from Montreal to Paris and I land in Orly. From that airport, is there a
rail station nearby for me to go to Strasbourg without wasting too much
time ?

I also wonder which youth hostel I should pick: Strasbourg Rene Cassin
or Strasbourg 2 Rives ? What are the differences between them?

I am doing research about Alsace, but if you have specific
recommendations (places to visit), let me know !

There is no choice. Paris Gare de l'Est. There are choices how to get
there from Orly.

The train for Strasbourg leaves from Gare de l'Est, which is just a few
minutes walk from the Gare du Nord. It's about a 4 hour train ride.

The old town in Strasbourg is a wonderful place, and the regional food is
delicious, very rich. Colmar is just a short distance south of there and
has lots of Romanesque architecture.

You'll be wasting about 1hour and a half to get to Gare de L'Est...One hour
if everything goes smoothly

There are a lot of things to see between Strasbourg and Colmar, two of
the "don't miss" sites in the region. The Route du Vin, of course,
offers many interesting, old wine towns. Riquewihr is the most
touristy (but still worth visiting), but there are others, too.

Also consider heading over into the Voges mountains, which offer some
very nice driving/hiking opportunities.

Don't overlook the Germany side of the Rhein, too. The area just north
of Breisach is known as the "Kaiserstuhl" and is a really pretty
wine-growing region. In many ways I think it is more scenic than the
French side.

I'd highly recommend renting a car if possible for your exploration of
Alsace. You'll be able to see a lot more, and enjoy getting to many of
the small villages. Or, rent a bike!
