Hi.
I'm travelling over to Europe in two weeks. I'm going to have a 3
month Eurail pass from mid July to October, after spending some time
in Greece.
I generally like the cooler weather - can anyone suggest where I
should head after seeing Italy, where the weather is cooler? We were
going to head to Spain immediately after Italy in early August, but I
hear it could be ridiculously hot around that time.
Cheers
Steve

The further North-west you go in Europe, the cooler it will normally be.
Scandinavia, Scotland, Ireland.

It depends on where in Spain you mean. The weather in the Northern coast is
absolutely different from the Andalucian one, and different from the Eastern
coast, too.

Yes, southern Spain is extremely hot that time of year. The average daily high
temperature in Sevilla is 97 F.
The Alps in Italy, France, Switzerland, and Austria would are extremely nice in
summer. Pretty much anywhere on the Baltic Sea is nice in the summer.
I imagine you will be ready for some cool weather if you are going to Firenze in
late July. It's not rocket science -- to cool off, head north and/or for the
mountains.

What do you mean by "be ready for" ? "be prepared to meet" or "be
lounging for" ?
I bet the second, since Florence is renowned to be extremely hot in
summer due to its location "in a hole", even hotter than Milan !
One should live above 1000 m in summer, or in air conditioned room and
never get out !

Cooler as you go north, or as you go higher - you can either head for
latitudes above 75 deg north, or altitudes above 9000 feet. For
example, you could head for some of those high Alpine meadows in the
Dolomites.

If you are lucky, it will be just like in the past two years: the
global warming is producing very hot periods in early summer, and this
allover Europe (Berlin and Warsaw both already had more than 34°C in
the last days), followed by wet and stormy weather (again allover
Europe, but especially in the Mediterranean area) as from mid-July.
August was a horror last year in Spain, France, Italy and Croatia. You
just have to risk it and...stay flexible.
