I'm finishing my degree up soon and I'm going to visit family in Lahr,
Germany for three weeks (were the old Canadian Airbase used to be). Any
suggestions on some interesting sites that are relativly nearby? (museums,
historical spots)

Good place. Strasbourg, one of my favorite cities in Europe, is just
around the corner. A ride on the futuristic tram of Strasbourg
(http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/pix/fr/...urg/STRAS1.jpg) is a
must. Go south from Strasbourg and enjoy the beauty, wines and
athmosphere of Alsace. If you're into old cars, you should also see
the phantastic collection of Musée Nationale d'Automobile
(http://www.collection-schlumpf.com/s...f/accueil.html).
On the German side of the Rhine, Freiburg with its litte streams in
the city center is a nice place. In Lahr, the romantic Black Forest
is right in your back. Many people also like Baden-Baden, just a few
miles nrth - I don't :-)

You might want to consider Tübingen. Closer than Heidelberg, but very much
the same in atmosphere, but less kitch and less tourists (most tourists in
Heidelberg are from USA or Japan).

Strasbourg is just across the border in France, and the old town is very
interesting. Colmar, just south of there is supposed to be very nice. Baden
Baden is about 50 km to the north and is very pleasant.
