Default Gatwick to Heathrow

I have just learned from Quicklink that the bus fare from gatwick to
heathrow is 17 pounds. Does anyone have an idea of the taxi fare? It's
probably less than 34 pounds.
thanks,
Mike

Never tried it but I suspect that an airport taxi would be more than 34
pounds. I would guess closer to 50?

My first instinct is that the taxi fare will be more than 34 quid. Depends on traffic and the M25 how much it would be exactly. I would think the bus would be cheaper.

It is probably not. The trip is outside the metering zone, so you would need
to negotiate a price. My guess would be in the GBP 50-60 range, but that may
be conservative.

The standard taxi picked up from the rank is about 50-60 I think, and you
can't negotiate. If you pre book a local company you should get it for about
40 ish. I guess there are two of you travelling - If you want to save money
you can train to Victoria and then take the tube. I believe that there is
another LGW-LHR bus for 15 GBP each but it doesn't go as close to the
terminal doors (i think). www.gobycoach.com

If you get a taxi from the rank at LGW you are looking at about 90
pounds +/- traffic (meters are on distance and time)
Although someone told me the other day that they had started doing a
fixed price, of about 80 pounds.
(hmm wonder if we had anyrthing to do with that?)
anyway we do it for 60 pounds flat fare

I think I'd train to Blackfriars, instead; it seemed a bit easier
to access the Underground there than at very, very busy Victoria
station.

You could - but you would be taking a slower train in slightly the wrong
direction !
Victoria is fairly pleasent outside the rush hour(s).

Slower compared to the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station, but
we personally can't see much point in spending the extra money
for the Express.

If it's speed you want on usch an out of the way journey between
the airports, you can use the Gatwick Express to Victoria
Station, Circle Line to Paddington Station, and then Heathrow
Express. Might even be faster overall than using the Speedlink
coach directly between the airports. Maybe.

    >Victoria is fairly pleasent outside the rush hour(s).

For various values of "fairly pleasant". But the Tube station
always seems to be busy, and has some very long tunnels and ramps
to get to the platforms.

Agreed - It's just a rip off to catch the tourists :-)
But the trains to Vicky are more frequent.

True - I usually use it for the Victoria Line, but I do remember some
longish tunnels for the Central/District

It is a motorway route (abt 45 miles) so is pretty pricey by metered taxi
but can be done in 40 minutes off peak

A few black cabs will do it "Off the meter" for approx £85, on the meter is
close to £100

We supply Executive cars, Jaguar, Lexus, Volvo etc for £60 or a standard car
for £55 (up to 4 passengers)

The bus is best if there are two passengers or less without heavy baggage
and time and aggrivation are not an issue

Regards

That's slightly cheaper than the direct bus, but not much. About 13 or
14 pounds per person, and you have to change twice. Details below.

Well, if the reason you're going to Heathrow is to catch another plane,
time might matter! And the price difference between Gatwick Express
and other trains is only a pound or so; it's not like the Heathrow
Express.

Once you're on the Underground, Blackfriars is about 10 minutes farther
from Heathrow than Victoria is. I believe the trip to Blackfriars is
also slower than even the non-express train to Victoria, by a further
20 minutes or so.

    > If it's speed you want on usch an out of the way journey between

But definitely more expensive -- now you're over 20 pounds per person
one way.

If doing any of these routes, be aware that Underground trains leave to
different destinations from the same platform -- watch the changing
signs on the platforms and the signs on the front of the train.

From either Blackfriars or Victoria, go first to the westbound Circle
and District Lines platform. If going to Paddington for the Heathrow
Express, wait for a CIRCLE LINE train. But if going to Heathrow by
Underground, wait for either a RICHMOND or an EALING BROADWAY train
and ride as far as Barons Court or the next station, Hammersmith. At
that point, cross to the other side of the platform, which is the
westbound Piccadilly Line platform. Again check the changing signs
-- don't just rush into a train if it's already standing there.
Board only a HEATHROW train. Finally, Heathrow has two stations --
trains stop once at Terminal 4, then once (5 minutes later!) at the
station for Terminals 1-3, then return to the city.

I have absolutely no problem with people like you (or Office Manager)
offering their services in a direct and relevant response to a question, But
I do have a serious problem when untruths are told.

The Taxi's at LGW are not metered. A fixed price is offered (and accepted or
not) when requesting the taxi.

I did actually point out that they offered a fixed price, however you
are incorrect, some of the Taxis there are indeed on a Meter.

They are licensed by Crawley borough council, and are allowed to ply
for hire at Gatwick.

The confusion here is that there are 2 types of Taxis at Gatwick, the
"Private hire" ones that have the booths at the terminals, and the
METERED ones that are licensed by Crawley Council

I'm confused - Are you and Clockhouse the same person ??

Also - where do you pick up the metered taxis at LGW ?
