Greetings,
I will be in the Frankfurt area in mid-July and was wondering if there are
any "ya really gotta see" sites nearby. Personal likes include: good german
food, castles, sandy beaches and the occasional zoo. I would love to find
some local cultural activities outside of the typical tourist realm. Any
ideas?
Sincerely,
Jim

There are some great castles northwest of Frankfurt on the Rhein and
some less well-known but also interesting ones to the south along the
Neckar upstream from Heidelberg.

SEcond that. you can take a quick train out to Bingen and take a Rhine Cruise
and see some spectacular castles, enjoy the local cuisine and wine in the
towns along the River Bank (BAcharach, St. Goar, Koblenz, etc. )
One of my FAVORITE plaes in GErmany.

LOL. Actually there is a smallish sandy beach - with separate nude
and textile sections - at the Langener Waldsee, about 20 km south of
Frankfurt.

There is a zoo in Frankfurt (http://www.zoo-frankfurt.de), but I've
never been there, so can't comment on its quality.
