Default Fly into Greece or Switzerland?

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Europe with my wife. We are planning to go in
April 2007 and visit Switzerland, Italy and Greece. We live in Toronto,
Canada.

What want to visit Venice, Florence, and Rome in Italy and do some
island hopping in Greece. We havent exactly decided where to stay in
Switzerland yet.

I would like to know whether it is better to fly to Greece and then
travel to Italy and go north to Switzerland or to fly into Switzerland,
go south in Italy and then onto Greece. Is there any benefit from doing
it one way over another?

Thanks in advance
H

Switzerland and northern Italy are colder places than Greece. So if
that's a concern you might choose to go to Greece first and have a
(slightly?) better chance of hitting warmer weather up north by
the end of April.

If you are planning on a long trip, visit Greece first, Italy second,
and Switzerland third for weather reasons. If you are only going for
three weeks or so it probably won't make much of a difference
weatherwise which order you do it in - whether you are in Athens on
April 4 or April 17.

If you are really interested in ancient cultures, you may prefer to see
Greece first and then Rome, to see more of the influence of Greek
culture on Ancient Rome, and how that impacts their legacies. Then
visiting other sites in Rome and visiting Florence and Venice you will
see the Greek and Roman influence on the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I am considering postoning my
trip until mid-May due to weather reasons.
